Obviously merit and values should always come first when choosing the president; but I’m not going to lie that when our first LGBT president is elected will be an emotional day for me, just as I know Obama was for many African Americans. And after 2018 in which a record number of LGBT people were elected the bench will be deeper than ever.

To that end; of these major elected officials, which is most likely to become our first openly LGBT President? Or is it likely to be someone not currently on the national stage?

Also, I’m going to shamelessly plug Sharice David’s kickass campaign ad.

Of these, Polis. But I don't see any of these people as particularly likely to become President

Sinema, because she is a moderate and can appeal to moderate Republicans and moderates

It's statistically unlikely to happen, because there are so few LGBTQ+ people compared to straight people.  I'd say it'll be decades if ever, barring some socioeconomic advantage for gay people.  I mean we still haven't had a Jewish president.

Sinema (and Polis) are never going to run for President. They'd both have to change their policies significantly seeing as both are relatively out of the Democratic mainstream.

Mayor Pete. If he doesn't get the nomination in 2020 he'll be VP or get a cushy Cabinet job that'll keep him in the national conversation.

Polis' views are part of the Democratic mainstream.  He supports universal healthcare, public education, climate change regulations, universal preschool, strengthened background checks on gun purchases, minimum wage increases, etc. just like any regular Democrat.

Probably not any of them but President Sinema or Polis would be pretty cool.

They have one; it's called identity politics.

Anyway, I'd say Polis is the most likely on this list.  Sinema's odds are diminished by having a somewhat shaky reelection chances in 2024.

Jared Polis, as Sinema is way too moderate to win a nomination.

I mean if Sinema moves back to the left (which I'm not holding my breath for lol) I could see her doing it. Beyond that, none of these people.

I could see Baldwin being picked as a VP. She is a fairly progressive woman from a Midwestern state, with a Democratic governor to appoint her replacement. From there, her path to the presidency is clear.
