Since landslide victories like 1936, 1964, 1972 or 1984 didn't occur in recent years and aren't expected for the next either, what would be your prediction for the highest number of electoral votes in the first half of this century? Assuming 538 remains the total number of electoral votes.

I think as much as 420 or 430 is possible. If that happens, it will be certainly a Democrat due to demographic long term trends. Also, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama won more electoral votes than George W. Bush and Donald Trump. Republican ceiling as of today is maybe about 340. If Texas is flipping, the Democrats can crack 400.

If the GOP digs its heels in and becomes a shrinking mass of paranoid white people convinced the Democrats are satanic baby eaters who conspire with the Deep State and the dishonest media to manipulate public opinion with false narratives and stuff the ballot boxes with fraudulent votes from illegals, descending into a swirling vortex of hateful delusion, by 2028 or 2032 we could see something like this:

I doubt this, though, because new blood will emerge in the GOP, and they will drag the party kicking and screaming into the 20th century. Hopefully this will also result in less partisanship and polarization.

OTOH, if the GOP expands its base of appeal by uniting labor and the business establishment, and a new generation of conservative Black and Hispanic voters join and create a genuine multi-racial appeal, leaving the Democrats as the party of technocratic, economic, and cultural elites out of touch with the rest of the country, we could see something like this:
