Yet if a Republican made comments like these Democrats would be demanding their resignation immediately.

Few if any demanded McCarthy's resignation when he promoted that loaded as hell "liberal Jewish billionaires are trying to take over the government" ad.

You are truly a Dem Hack.

Republicans Attacking George Soros in ads doesn't mean they are anti-semitic lol. The reason they attack him in all the ads is he is one of the top contributors to liberal causes and the Democratic Party, just like Democrats attack the Koch Brothers in ads. Dems run ads that say the Koch Brothers are trying to take over the government and are the ones who secretly control the GOP all the time too.

If you are as involved in Partisan Politics as George Soros and the Koch Brothers the other side will go after you and hard.

Utter nonsense.  George Soros is no where near as involved in U.S politics and is not involved in the ridiculous conspiracy theories that are made up for him (George Soros finances 'black lives matter' rallies to start riots!)

The accusations against George Soros are part of him supposedly being part of the 'deep state' and he is tied in to that because he's Jewish and that feeds in to the Jewish banking conspiracy theories.

If you don't appreciate that and don't appreciate that McCarthy tweeted that to appeal to the Alex Jones types, you are naive.

Doesn't address the issue.

1.There were at least 2 Democratic donors higher than Soros on that list at least one of whom isn't Jewish.

2.Koch brothers finance either through dark money, buying advocacy ads through one of their front groups or through funding 'think tanks' like the global warming denying 'Heartland Institute.'

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Money_(book)

and the Koch Brothers spent less money than Soros did yet they are demonized just as much by Democrats in political campaigns.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_projects_supported_by_George_Soros

Many of those groups are clear partisan organizations so yah thats why he is attacked in Ads.

I don't think so

Koch brothers network to spend up to $400 million in midterm cycle
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/27/koch-brothers-network-to-spend-400-million-in-midterm-election-cycle.html
Jan 27, 2018 - Conservative Koch brothers' network to spend up to $400 million for the midterm election cycle – including $20 million to sell the GOP tax law.

I'm not sure if they actually did spend this in the end because they complained about the influence Trump has had on the Republican Party, but it's an indication of the amount of money they are prepared to spend.  And, this is just on the elections themselves, nothing to do with the phony 'think tanks' they fund or the university they bought.

The real problem Republicans have here is not that Omar criticized AIPAC, nor with how she criticized them. Their problem is that she is woman, doesn't have northern-european pale skin, and she's  speaking up.

Republicans had no problem with Trump's long history of anti-Semitic dog-whistling. For example, this tweet, which was widely criticized as anti-Semitic

This tweet by Trump certainly shouldn't be taken lightly by anyone; none of his tweets should. But it still irritates me beyond end that people on here are not only actively defending Omar for her comments, but are deflecting the blame for them upon Republicans.

This. Omar's comments were vile and this isn't the first time she's made the "mistake" of appearing anti-Semitic. Democrats can't claim the high ground on racism if we defend people like Omar.

I don't see how telling the black woman from Minnesota to shut up and apologize for talking about Palestine or mentioning lobbyists is going to win that ground.

The worst thing about identity politics is that it allows identity to negate correctness of an argument.  The second worst thing about identity politics is that it tends to allow the parties that shout the loudest, or who flood the blogosphere with the most posts and tweets, to claim victory in the argument.

Are you saying that black persons, or female persons, are exempt from being required to offer an apology?  That whatever they say or print or tweet out is OK?  Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but I always had the idea that true equality meant that persons' ideas and actions were taken for what they were, and not for who was saying them.  Silly Me!

They didnt though they werent even in the top 3-5 among GOP donors this year.

Besides thats not my point, my point is Adelson and Koch get attacked very similarly by progressives as Soros does by Conservatives. They are attacked for mainly partisian reasons.

Omar attacked an organization which works bipartisanly and mission is to ensure Israel remains Safe and Secure and has made many Anti-Israel statements in the past.

Attacking AIPAC is totally different because unlike Soros/Koch Brothers it's goal is not Partisan Politics but to ensure that Israel remains safe, secure and the US remains staunch allies with Israel and they work with members of both parties as well.

Your quaint view of AIPACs aims is rather unicorn and rainbows territory.

Without getting into Omar's tweets specifically, whether or not there was racist subtext or tropes, how she went about getting her point across, all of that... the mainstream media has been relatively silent on this one simple fact. Simply criticizing the Israeli government in and of itself is NOT anti-semetic or racist, and anybody who says otherwise is trying to sell you something. A government is an organization of people (with power) whose actions cannot be blamed on an entire country full of civilians, and people who share that ethnic makeup living abroad.

HOW you critcize Israel can certainly be racist or anti-semetic, obviously.

Last time I checked, critizing aipac is not comparable to calling neo-nazis "very fine people" or a sitting Republican Congressman endorsing white supremacist ideas.
Ohmar should have never apologized and I say this as a jew

Why are Atlas Socialists so supportive of Omar and so critical of AIPAC? I mean this as a general observation. And I should know the answer, giving that the left is becoming increasingly critical of Israel.

Yeah, why on earth are progressives so supportive of a progressive congresswoman, and critical of an organization aligned with the right-wing Netanyahu and Likud?  It’s a total mystery.

AIPAC has nowhere near the influence that some on here have claimed. And it has received the greatest amount of opprobrium on here. I also notice that people have continually ignored Omar's earlier tweet about Israel, and her claim that it has "hypnotized" the world.

Same reason they oppose Trump. Both the Trump administration Israel generally (not just Netanyahu and Likud, but all hypothetical Israeli governments) want to limit immigration. Progressives believe limiting immigration is racist and that being racist is the worst crime possible.

That is not even close to the reason why I oppose Israel or Trump, and I'm sure the same is true for most socialists.

"anti-Semitic tweets"

First of all, there were not multiple tweets, there was one tweet

and it was anti-Israel, not anti-Semitic

I seriously can't get you people who freak out if the US or Europe deny a single immigrant refugee status but defend an ethnocracy like Israel.

I don't support Omar, and I don't oppose Israel qua Israel in general any more than I would "oppose" any other country qua country and think it's ridiculous and in many cases bigoted that so many do, but this isn't even close to the biggest reason why I, or most other leftists, oppose Netanyahu and his increasingly antidemocratic and illiberal regime.

I've never met a non-Jewish leftist who supported the right of Israel (or any country) to purposefully craft immigration policy to maintain majority status for the majority group.

Can you imagine a leftist supporting the right of the US to maintain a white majority?

So why are there leftists who support the right of Israel to maintain a Jewish majority?

Well, there increasingly aren't any leftists that support the right of Israel to maintain a Jewish majority, because it's a position that's incompatible with leftism.

Well, there increasingly aren't any leftists that support the right of Israel to maintain a Jewish majority, because it's a position that's incompatible with leftism.

Well now you have. Of course every country has the right to do such things. The only question is whether all countries should actually do it. If Israel wants to maintain a Jewish majority that's fine. Why don't they collaborate with the left and come up with a two state solution then? Like that's what I don't get. The leftist position actually helps Israel's Jewish identity... but the Right is still against it.

Same reason they oppose Trump. Both the Trump administration Israel generally (not just Netanyahu and Likud, but all hypothetical Israeli governments) want to limit immigration. Progressives believe limiting immigration is racist and that being racist is the worst crime possible.

I don't support Omar, and I don't oppose Israel qua Israel in general any more than I would "oppose" any other country qua country and think it's ridiculous and in many cases bigoted that so many do, but this isn't even close to the biggest reason why I, or most other leftists, oppose Netanyahu and his increasingly antidemocratic regime.

I've never met a non-Jewish leftist who supported the right of Israel (or any country) to purposefully craft immigration policy to maintain majority status for the majority group.

1) you aren't really a leftist. You're liberal at most and you move around the spectrum a lot.

2) Even if the left won and there were two states, Israel would still have to deny some Palestinians the right of return (as many Palestinians are from Israel proper) and continue to have a discriminatory immigration policy that favors Jews. Israel can literally not exist without engaging in discrimination. I don't mind this, because I'm an evil nationalist. I don't understand why a leftist would be cool with that though. The vast majority are not.

When I think Israel, I don't, first and foremost, think immigration policy (unlike WillipsBrighton, who seems to, first and foremost, think immigration policy whenever he thinks any country, possibly even any political issue, on the planet).

If I were to think about Israel primarily in terms of its immigration policy, I'd probably pay a lot of attention to the fact a number of countries and non-state actors neighboring Israel have a key political and military goal of perpetrating a genocide against Israel's current majority group. This is simply not the case with immigration and border policy in most other countries, crypto-fascist conspiracy theories about muh white genocide and "them" "replacing" "us" aside. Preventing genocide strikes me as sufficiently compelling cause to contemplate (some) limitations on freedom of movement.

Here's a good idea for a drinking game: take a shot every time Ray Goldfield feels the need to call something anti-Semitic
