How did Gore win Nassau and Suffolk by such large margins? He won Nassau by almost 20 points and Suffolk by almost 12. Meanwhile, Clinton held onto Nassau by 6 and lost Suffolk by 7 while Obama won Nassau by around 8 both elections and Suffolk by 6 then 4 points. What caused such large swings in these suburban counties?

I knew a Gore / Lazio voter from Suffolk county. He voted Lazio because Hillary wasn't a New Yorker.

1. Lieberman helped with the Jewish vote

2. Suburbs around NYC might had been turned off by Bush's religious conservatism. However four years later Bush turned out a lot of those suburb voters who didnt vote before due to 9/11 and the War on terrorism especially Italian americans, a group of which had a lot of people in the Fire department and the NYPD during 9/11. And they stayed GOP voting ever since and many more italian ameicans turned out for Trump in 2016.

3. While the economy was showing signs of recession around 2000 since compared to a year ago the economy was growing much slower. Clinton's handling of the economy meant that many suburbanites didn't turn out for the GOP the way they did in 2004 "oh the economy is fine we don't need tax cuts".
