It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Population decline is going to be a major economic hindrance in parts of the US, most of Europe, and East Asia.

Now, if only he strengthens the working conditions of Hungary instead of breaking them down, then maybe his supporters would have a better chance of having the income to start a family.

This was also covered last year

Great man, $35,000 is a lot considering the housing market is only picking up in Hungary.

If only more politicians had their priorities straight.

Orban wins because the Left has abandoned social democracy in favor of neoliberalism, and now he's the closest thing Hungary has.

I’d be in favor of adopting this in the United States.

I'm wondering how the opposition will try to spin this as "evil and regressive".

Even with a tax break, having four children is still such a difficulty that even a moderate tax break is not enough to make a dent in the fertility rate. If Orban really wanted to have an effective fertility tax knockoff, have a larger tax brake from 2 kids down, that is at least more tenable with the current economy and parliamentary majority on Orban’s hands.

Also...

What tax break are you talking about?

First off, a very good apartment in Budapest can be found for under 100k Euro, meaning that the 30k you get for 3 children, is 1/3 of an apartment (would be like getting 150k+ in San Francisco, in terms of housing).

Second, after the 4th child, the woman NEVER pays taxes again.

Great news! Hopefully it works.

China and Japan should consider similar measures.

Are you out of your mind?!

(also, thinking that this would work in China or Japan is incredibly naive)
