https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/va-gov-northams-medical-school-yearbook-page-shows-men-in-blackface-kkk-robe/2019/02/01/517a43ee-265f-11e9-90cd-dedb0c92dc17_story.html?utm_term=.c6262f6915a7

"The page is labeled Ralph Shearer Northam, along with pictures of him in a jacket and tie, casual clothes and alongside his restored Corvette.

It shows two people, one in plaid pants, bow tie and black faced, and the other in full Klan robes. Both men appear to be holding beer cans.

The person in black face is smiling. Beneath the photo is a writeup about Northam listing his alma mater, noting that his interest is pediatrics and giving a quote: “There are more old drunks than old doctors in this world so I think I’ll have another beer.'"

Leftists did not even like Northam, he is very socially liberal (as is most Virginia Democrats), but economically conservative.

This was Old South Virginia by the way.

I don't think Northam will be forced to resign.

It does not make the VA GOP's problems go away, they nominated a white nationalist for Senate last year.

I think with Trump in the WH, and SCOTUS, with Kavanaugh and Alito sitting on the Crt, doesn't bold well for the GOP. It doesn't dimish this, but Blacks and Dems are concerned more about GOP and racial profiling.

His abortion comments are disgusting and so is this. I was at first for Perriello, but then I liked Northam’s moderate tone and hated Perriello’s anti right to work stuff. So I changed to Northam. I regret this now, I would support Perriello now. I hope he resigns, very hp. Also scratch my idea to make him hhs sec under the next dem. I want Justin Fairfax to be governor, not a fan of Herring.

Isn't it just rotten luck for the GOP that this didn't come out before the 2017 election? Lol. Anyway, this isn't right and Northam should resign.

No, I think Greitens' legal/affair/political scandals in early 2018 were worse.

If we're bringing up bad weeks for a sitting governor, it seems wrong to not bring up Chris Christie.

If he wants to have Democrats controlling the General Assembly in time for the 2020 redistricting cycle, I echo others here in their desire for him to step down.  He did some good with regard to expanding Medicaid, but this scandal has ensured he won't be as effective going forward.

Betting he's the one in the robes. Blackface is inherently something an effete, rich Republican of the time and place would have done, while dressing up like the KKK would definitely be more in line with a Southron Dem back then.

If he resigns, who becomes Lieutenant Governor? Or does the office stay vacant?

Pretty sure Lt gov takes over. Since Northam has finished half of his term, I wonder if the Fairfax can then run in 2021
