Steve Paikin has commented that Del Duca is the first person with an Italian surname (though not Italian ancestry - that would be Patrick Brown) to lead a provincial party.  It was not well received given that Del Duca beat two Black candidates, three women and an Asian man.

Does the "Italian vote" exist in 2020 Ontario?

Surprised it's taken this long considering how many "Italian names" dominate municipal politics. Chiarelli, Di Ianni, DeCicco, Scarpitti, Salci, Diodati, Fedeli, Provenzano, Fratesi, Bevilacqua, Di Biase, Disero, Mazzuca, etc

And two Ontario finance ministers: Sorbara and Fedeli.

They just haven't reached Mayor of Toronto and Premier of Ontario.
