Blue wins out even without the gray states, just barely. 276-237 (25). HI/NJ/ID deciding block.

Random map of a 2024 scenario. Harris, a young GOP center-left populist (pro-life, pro-lgbtq, anti big business, pro M4A, non-interventionism, pro-UBI, pro Paris, anti China) and Romney run. West, a far left party and a libertarian do well as well. Harris does bad after Biden flopped and ran a far left campaign. The WWC votes for their hero. Harris convinces women and minority voters. Romney does well among cons esp. in west and deep con states.

Random 2000 scenario

Gov. George W. Bush (R-TX)/Fmr. Sen. John Danforth (R-MO): 48.2%, 295 EVs
Vice Pres. Al Gore (D-TN)/Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT): 48.2%, 243 EVs

1964: Kennedy lives on, gets in trouble with Bobby Baker scandal, drops LBJ from the ticket and Nelson Rockefeller is the Republican nominee.

✓ Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller (R-NY)/Governor James Rhodes (R-OH): 291 EV. (50.17%)
President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (D-MA)/Governor Terry Sanford (D-NC): 240 EV. (47.25%)
Unpledged electors: 7 EV.

1968: The last election with a Deep South (Democratic) versus the entire rest (Republican). DC goes Republican for the only time in history.

✓ President Nelson A. Rockefeller (R-NY)/Vice President James Rhodes (R-OH): 477 EV. (60.71%)
Senator George Smathers (D-FL)/Governor Edmund G. Brown (D-CA): 61 EV. (38.23%)

I have a question on the 1968 DC vote. How much does Rockefeller win by?

I don't bother with the popular vote but it's probably a slim Democrat victory.

This was going to be my 2020 Bloomberg timeline.  The big twist was Trump lashes out at Romney to such an extant he endorses  the Libertarian candidate-Justin Amash and tries to make a serious play for Utah, McMullin style.

2016 (Kasich vs Clinton):

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (D-NY)/Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA): 394 EVs (45%)
Businessman Donald Trump (Tea Party-NY)/Former Governor Sarah Palin (Tea Party-AK): 90 EVs (28%)
Governor John Kasich (R-OH)/Govenor Susana Martinez (R-NM): 54 EVs (25%)
Others: 0 EVs (2%)

The Democrats gain a Senate majority in this scenario by defeating Pat Toomey, Ron Johnson, Marco Rubio, Richard Burr, Todd Young, and Roy Blunt in addition to their Senate gains IRL. The Democrats also pick up 30 seats in the House of Representatives, giving them a narrow majority.

Based on current average polling of a double digit lead, this is my map (not perfect of course because elasticity) of a uniform 10% point swing from 2016 to 2020.
