Pete returned to Iowa yesterday to campaign there and got huge, enthusiastic crowds:

Anti-gay protesters shout about Sodom and Gomorrah at Pete Buttigieg rally in Iowa

Quote
Protesters shouting about "Sodom and Gomorrah" interrupted South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg on Tuesday at an Iowa campaign rally.

Buttigieg hopes to become the first openly gay president in American history.

One of the men who shouted about the biblical cities destroyed by God's wrath for their sinful ways was Randall Terry, a Christian activist who founded the anti-abortion rights group Operation Rescue. The organization says it split with him 18 years ago and now considers him too radical.

The crowd at the Des Moines rally drowned out Terry's shouts by cheering Buttigieg’s name.

"The good news is, the condition of my soul is in the hands of God, but the Iowa caucuses are up to you," an unshaken Buttigieg responded, pointing at the crowd.

CNN's Jeff Zeleny reported that Buttigieg was interrupted three times by protesters affiliated with Terry.

Another video from the rally showed one of the other protesters shout "baby killer" and "Sodomite" while appearing to point in Buttigieg's direction.

"Remember Sodom and Gomorrah," he yelled over the crowd's chants of "Pete!"

Buttigieg was also confronted by a protester at a smaller event in Fort Dodge, Iowa, earlier on Tuesday after he brought up the subject of same-sex marriage.

"Grandparents, do you want your grandchildren following his example?" the man yelled as audience members booed over him, in a CNN video.

Gesturing toward Buttigieg, he shouted, "God loves us, but he stands for the murder of unborn babies!"

"Coffee after church gets a little rowdy sometimes," Buttigieg quipped after the man was escorted from the room. "That gentleman believes that what he is doing is in line with the will of the creator. I view it differently. We ought to be able to view it differently."

Buttigieg supports abortion rights and said at an event in South Carolina last month, "You’re not free if your reproductive choices are being dictated by male politicians in Washington."

The crowds and the attacks mean that he's now polling around 15-20% in Iowa and has fully arrived in the campaign mode there ...

Any idea on when the next IA poll comes out?

He seems to be focusing heavily on IA and NH as opposed to some of the other candidates. I wonder what their delegate strategy is. He'll undoubtedly be a weaker candidate in Southern states, but I can see him doing well everywhere else.

The Dems would nominate BETO, Harris or Tim Ryan ahead of him

I agree with Beto & probably Harris.  Tim Ryan however is sitting at the bottom of the list with Tulsi & Swalwell.  Tim Ryan is not even in the same ballgame as Pete.

This election is definitely going to be ugly regardless of the Democratic candidate, but with the whole anti-gay bigotry angle that Republicans seem destined to take, it's going to be even uglier. I'm hoping that it blows up in their face though.

Suburban republicans democrats won over in 2018 are pretty okay with gay people all things considered. I'd assume republicans going anti-gay would probably push a few towards voting against Trump.

The amount of homophobic garbage that is happening to Pete shows that his campaign is important as ever for paving the pathway for all future queer candidates. And we get to see who the garbage human being are.

His national service proposal is the first main hitch I've found in my support for him. For someone running as a millennial candidate, he doesn't seem to realize just how disruptive this would be for young people already in a tough situation.

This. I would love it if he somehow wins, if only for the immense positive effect it would have on LGBTQs around the world. And very possibly, on my own personal life.

Based on what little polling data we have so far, Buttigieg's niche is wealthy white liberals.

= journalists + loud on Twitter. It will certainly not hurt you to have them on your side.

Quote
News junkies are more than familiar with South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg. After all, the articles on him (such as this one) from the national media seem to keep at a brisk pace. He's now a clear number 2 in cable news mentions. But why?

Part of it has to do with Buttigieg's differentiating biography and rise in the polls. Indeed, well-informed voters like him, and his Google searches picked up before the media caught up.

I would caution, though, that Buttigieg's core support may position him to seem more popular to national media than he actually is.

The problem for reporters is that even the best one's opinions about the horserace are shaped by the environment surrounding them. This is especially the case early in primaries, because polling is far less predictive than it is in general elections. The people who surround national media reporters are right in Buttigieg's wheelhouse.

Buttigieg does best among wealthier Democrats. Take a look at recent polling from California (Quinnipiac University), Iowa (Monmouth University) and nationally (Quinnipiac). In all three cases, Buttigieg's support more than doubles as one goes from voters making less than $50,000 to greater than $100,000. The jump is rather dramatic in the Iowa poll, which had Buttigieg at 7% among those earning less than $50,000 and at 15% with those earning more than $100,000.
Quote
Now, none of what I've written here is meant to dismiss Buttigieg's chances. He's clearly on the upswing, as I wrote weeks ago. It's just that it's important to keep in mind that Buttigieg is in the same camp in polling as candidates like Sen. Kamala Harris, former Rep. Beto O'Rourke and Sen. Elizabeth Warren. He's still polling in the high single digits for the most part. Former Vice President Joe Biden at around 30% and Sen. Bernie Sanders at around 20% are a world away for the moment.

Uh oh! Looks like Prince Pete isn't as perfect as Atlas had hoped. Is Atlas going to cut him as deep as they did Harris? We'll find out!

The best thing about Buttigieg is that he's taken all the wind out of Beto's sails. Pete is a much better candidate than O'Rourke.

He doesn't really have a proposal for national service. He's just very interested in the idea of national service and believes it can help repair some of our social/political fabric.

He's the Fyre Festival candidate. There's nothing really there.

Uh.... with the privileged elitist media looking for a lapdog, sure. The six jam packed events Beto had in Virginia yesterday tell a different story.

The irony of this reply coming from a Beto supporter has literally left me speechless lol. But then again, you're probably trolling.
