Montfortian Declaration:
January 11th, 2019

The cause of political reform in the Republic of Atlasia is one that the signatories of this declaration wholeheartedly endorsed, and have done so across their respective political careers. Despite the evident benefits of the Reset achieved after the Constitutional Convention more than two years ago, we find it evident that the nation is still in need for further reform and change in order to thrive, and hopefully leave the chains of apathy and disaffection behind.

While it is true that constitutional change alone will not fully accomplish the mission of building a more active, more engaging and more interesting Atlasia, it is certainly a necessary process that must be accomplished if we are to move ahead and step into a more prosperous future. It is undeniable that the last fifteen years of existence under a Presidential system are an accomplishment, but they should not constrain and deny us the possibility to improve, to change, to achieve progress and endorse that a fresh wave of enthusiasm spreads across the nation.

That solution is Parliamentarism. This we believe with passion and enthusiasm, and it is our commitment to ensure via the foundation of a new political party that the dream of Parliamentarism is accomplished no matter how long it takes, no matter how hard it becomes. On this we are inspired by the spirit of the Montfort Plan of early 2018, which we believe ought to be implemented in an amended version, and are thus inspired to choose as our symbol the name of Montfort, one of the forefathers of the British Parliament and of representative government.

Whilst we have all been, in the past or at the present, members of the Alliance Party and stand proud of its accomplishments and of its spirit of renewal and moderations, we believe the party has both proven inadequate on its non-partisan, non-ideological stance and ran its course in terms of history, particularly given recent events. We believe it is time to create a new political home for those of us who share an unambiguously pro-parliamentarian, reformist and broadly liberal view of Atlasian politics, and who may not have felt represented by the Alliance as well.

Among the many principles and policies we will espouse via our platform we commit to the transition from Presidentialism through unicameral Parliamentary Democracy via a referendum, to political reforms such as activity standards or a nationwide referendum system, to infrastructure expansion, to fiscal responsibility and deficit reduction, to an open market and generally free trade economy, to a bold environmental agenda that includes moving away from fossil fuels and protecting endangered species, to supporting and strengthening the Game Engine and the Game Moderator, to a continued involvement in global governance and an active foreign policy that maintains and defends our present commitments, and other principles.

Finding that neither of Atlasia’s two main political parties to be satisfactory haven for Parliamentarism and for much of what we believe in, now more than ever we believe a party with this vision and these stances to be necessary. To keep things as they are under the present status quo is to us unwise and unhelpful. We do not believe that the right way ahead is to irresponsibly spend our way into economic strife or turn a blind eye to different manifestations of inactivity or indecision. We do not believe that the right way ahead is to turn towards Trump-inspired policies built out of prejudice to exploit our darkest fears. We believe in bold, unambiguous change, and reject the notion that those unwelcomed or incompatible with one or either of the two main parties are condemned never to lead.

It is based on this that the Montfortian Party is hereby founded, in the hopes that through hard work and leading by example we can ensure a realignment of Atlasian politics and the definitive change of its system of government.

Signed,

Still going to be a Federalist, but this is honestly a close second favorite!

Now for the important questions: what's the party's official hex code?

As a former Alliancite, it's sad to see the party go. The party is a group of great people, and I wish them all well in the future.

Well, I thought the old Alliance was ok, but I actually think presidencial regimes are better overall and also more interesting because of the relation between the legislature and the president.

I do agree with all the the other policies though.

I have generally been an opponent of a parliament system but look forwarding to hearing the arguments that are laid out. Is your goal to have them implemented nationally or would you first try to institute it in one region and see how it works there?

The Liberal Party's official color is blue but I believe this party will not use the same blue.

Fremont has had a parliamentary system (albeit with a directly-elected prime minister, ala 1990s Israel) for almost two years now—presumably that should be the starting point for any conversation about introducing parliamentary democracy on the national scale.
