Age of Revlutions:
The World of the XVIII Century

(Ignore the 1776)

Meanwhile, Western and Central Europe has changed following the war. Despite a Status Quo Ante Bellum Peace, the 12 year peace has remained tedious at best. Austria, ruled by Archduchess Maria Theresa, looks at the Kingdom of Prussia, ruled by Frederick II the Great, with daggers in the hopes of not only retaking Silesia, a prized possession and a key one that’s needed for further economic success, but to also humiliate the Kingdom and show what happens when Habsburg supremacy is challenged. At the same time, France has practically been bankrupted and her once grand imperial ambitions have been torn from them due to the war with Britain. The position of King Louis XVI looks unstable but if a few key decisions can be taken, it’s possible that the situation can be remedied before it’s too late.

Finally in Eastern Europe, a large turn have happened over the past few decades due in part to the internal collapse of Polish-Lithuania’s independence, from being the Lion of Europe to now being little more than Catherine the Great’s puppet State, it’s clear the Commonwealth has seen better days. Prussia, Austria, and Russia eye their territory hungrily with the hope of being able to absorb the commonwealth into their own realms btu the situation can be salvaged if a skilled enough ruler was able to play off the surrounding kingdoms off before breaking free of Russian Influence for good. Russia, however, is in its Golden Age under Catherine II the Great, having expanded its realm even more than it did under Peter I the Great. However, enemies remain plenty, with the Ottomans to the south remaining ever the constant threat as well as the Caucasian Nations and to the west, Prussia under Frederick could prove to be quite the troublemaker, as well as the internal chaos of which Russia has become known for remaining the problem that even the strong Catherine is barely holding on, it seems.

It will be you who decides the balance of this New World in the Age of Revolutions, during a time when the first democracies were born and the first Democracies arose from the ashes of broken monarchies. You will be the one to traverse the dangerous mindfield of Public Support and Opinion, at the start of the American Revolution and with the first sparks of the French Revolution having already been fanned in our history. You will be the one to redraw the maps and bring a history much, much different from our own as a New Nation that is quite important to our world takes its first breath of freedom from an oppressive monarchy

Will you succeed?

Basic Rules:

(Rules used are stolen from Lumine, who’s using them for D&E)

1. Turns: We will follow the BoP/SoD model (also seen in the brilliant Concert/Encore duology) as players play turns of a year (five days in RL, with mid-turn updates at the third day), react to ongoing crises and events and post their policies, moves and reactions to what other players do. The Game starts on the first months of 1775 and history is, of course, considered to have gone as it did before that.

2. Messages: Secret messages between the players must include the GM, meaning myself and/or GoTFan, all of them. Assuming conversations take place off the forum I will insist on receiving some sort of summary of what is being discussed, in order to follow the events in a proper manner. I have my own Discord Server for my Games that I’m doing so one can feel free to join. The Link will never expire. (Link : https://discord.gg/k8SEgc4 ).

4. Historical Events: By now players know my strong preference for the dice system, but there will be a small degree of involvement for the random number generator on a number of factors and potential events that might increase unpredictability in the game. There will be Special Events based on situations like an Imperial or Papal Elections, giving a specific number of days to players to react and a larger level of detail on the particular situation. Players are encouraged to propose events to simulate as well.

5. Stats and Warfare: The stats for each player will be focused on "Popularity", "Legitimacy" and "Economic Status", with the special "War Morale" whenever a player nation is facing a conflict. It has been decided to keep war from what was seen in Spamage's Concert and Encore (as professional armies are very important). War is quite costly, however

6. Game Over: Game Over can come in three ways: Being deposed by another player (Invasion scenario), being deposed in a coup or revolt (Revolt Scenario) or having your dynasty die out or lack an heir to continue playing (Dynasty Scenario). Having your monarch/president die even by enemy action won't be by itself a Game Over and the player will retain preference to continue playing said nation should he wish to do so. Potentially, the death of a monarch under a complex succession scenario could trigger a War of Succession.

7. Players, Nations and Simulation: NPC countries will be simulated as always, but with a twist. While it is my stated objective to answer all player questions within 48 hours (and will request that people post in public should I fail to answer to be reminded), the amount of information I can provide will be very limited, to represent both the limited amount of information reasonably available to the character being played and to avoid giving too much of an advantage to players as GM. Questions such as "What does NPC Nation want in return for this?" or "What would happen if I did X" will either not bring an answer or a very limited one.

Russia has already been claimed by Sawx on my Discord server for the game, but feel free to play as someone else Smiley

Also, Cath, no worries, if you need time, I'll grant an extension for that turn

Actually, I think I'd like to switch to Austria if that's ok. Working with the Sejm, trying to pass reforms, and dealing with Russian interference would just be too much of a headache.

Understandable. I'll get into contact with GoTFan and we'll begin working on the first part of the Gameplay thread ASAP

I'm considering one of the Italian minors (Sardinia, Genoa, Venice) as I'm involved in a few other games but would still like to participate. Would that be allowed?

I'd be down to take Lafayette if that okay. If you not interested in having people take characters yet then I'd be down for Poland.

Poland is Granted. It takes time for Lafayette to be known and he has to make the trip across the Atlantic first.

it would really have to be your choice of the minor states but yes, it's allowed.
