Why are people saying Hoover? Hoover's kind of the reverse: a resume candidate without any natural political instincts. Two term Secretary of Commerce, head of the Food Administration, and leader of relief efforts after WWI. Hoover's resume was fine.
He was just a terrible, terrible President because he had awful instincts about how to address a problem far bigger than he was.
Kind of cliche to say these days, especially given his deplorable 1928 campaign, but Hoover strikes me very much as a right guy, wrong time type of President. The rest of his career seems very admirable.
I agree wholeheartedly. Hoover had the potential to be miles better than Harding and Coolidge (of course not Roosevelt or Truman in my opinion) but 1928 just wasn't the year to be elected President.
