Why has no nominee put forth like 3 names from his shortlist to the convention and allowed the delegates to vote for the VP nominee? That’d be some great drama for the networks and generate a lot of coverage of the proceedings.

Because the last time it was tried Ike still clobbered Stevenson?

You're saying that is the reason Stevenson lost?

LOL at this thread, its why I keep coming back here. Anyways, the NYT story says it'll probably be Wednesday, but my gut tells me it'll be Thursday. A small sliver of me wants him to wait until this weekend or even the Convention to see how crazy this thread can get.

Putting together a cabinet during the campaign could run afoul of the law. For example, Buttigieg being selected for a cabinet position could be framed as bribery because he dropped out after South Carolina and cleared some of the way for Biden moving forward. The Justice Department wouldn't hesitate to file charges against Biden.

Putting Buttigieg in the cabinet wouldn’t be bribery just because he dropped out. “Bribery refers to the offering, giving, soliciting, or receiving of any item of value as a means of influencing the actions of an individual holding a public or legal duty”

Pete never gave him anything in return and a cabinet position is not an “item”.

In a long-running court case that was finally resolved by the Supreme Court in 2015, the Eleventh Circuit ruled that a red grouper was a "tangible object" under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act because it is an object with physical form; the Supreme Court reversed and, in a 5-4 decision, found that the phrase "tangible object," as used in Sarbanes-Oxley, only related to tangible objects used to preserve records and documents.

Point being: we can debate semantics all day, but you certainly can't say that they wouldn't have a case just because a cabinet position is not an "item". The federal law says "anything of value" — is a cabinet position not a thing?

Well you make a good point, and maybe the definition goes beyond a physical item. However they wouldn’t have a case because there is no proof, no connection whatsoever between Buttigeig dropping out and potentially getting a cabinet position.

The Biden campaign's senior creative adviser (i.e. somebody who'd have a major role concerning the roll-out):

Not quite, depends on one's interpretation of the 12th & 22nd Amendments' precise wordings.

Not really, neither Malia nor Sasha are even close to being 35.

Just did that, and apparently I'll be one of the first to know who Biden's VP is. I just got really excited too because a few seconds after I submitted I got another text only to realize it was from my father. Gonna go update my daily forecast to pass time, but you bet your bottom dollar my phone is right next to me.

I hope Biden is smart not to pick Susan Rice. He could still win even with her on the ticket. I don't think Rice can survive even a primary. I think it will be Harris,Rice,Whitmer or maybe Warren.

Personally, I hope he doesn't chose Kamala. He needs to chose someone new and exciting who still has experience.

how is Harris not "new and exciting"? what? she only recently came up on the national scene in the last few years

Considering what coronavirus did to the cruise industry the last thing we need is "exciting and new"!

Veep, exciting and new
Come aboard. We're expecting you.
Veep, politics' reward.
Let it flow, it floats back to you.

The Veepstakes soon will be making another run
The Veepstakes promises something for everyone
Set a course for adventure, your mind on a new romance.

And tweets won't hurt anymore
They'll be a open smile on a friendly shore.
It's Veep!
Welcome aboard

Jay Inslee is holding a "virtual conversation" with Whitmer on August 13th.

Buy Whitmer "No" before the bookies hear.

https://www.nytimes.com./2020/08/10/opinion/susan-rice-africa.html

Rice was apparently an apologist for African strongmen. Not that many voters will care, but it raises questions about her judgement.
