Big event tomorrow VP could be announced then possibly
Sara Bareilles would definitely help boost Biden's numbers with young voters. Great VP choice
I for one am hoping for Renee Goldsberry. She is truly a mind at work that will leave all factions of the party satisfied

It would be earth-shattering if Michelle Obama was offered and accepted the role.

However, since that won't happen, I think Kamala is the most logical choice and probably the best pick right now.

Donald would lose what little is left of his mind.

Assume Empty Quote Chain positions! I'll start the template and just delete the other quotes you won't use:

Queen Harris!

It was always going to be her.

Called it.

FWIW I think the Twitter person was being sarcastic about how publicly Harris is angling there

Beware of betting markets. Biden was around 10-12 at this time in 2008 and Ryan in 2012 was below 4. The campaign’s internal process is completely independent of our speculation.

Who was number one at this time in '08 if Biden was lower?

Presumably Evan Bayh?

Bayh and Kaine were for some time co-favorites, but Biden quickly overtook them, especially after Russia's invasion of Georgia.

Bayh was the favorite, maybe a little lower than Kamala was now. Axelrod said afterwards that Biden was the first choice all along though.

Pawlenty and Portman were on top in 2012 and even Romney was high in 2008 but later revealed McCain had no intention of ever picking him.

You guys should probably do this over PM instead of in the VP news megathread.

With all due respect to you and the great people of Talk Elections, I happen to disagree. If someone's going to make a vicious, unfounded personal attack against me, I'm going to stand up for myself, especially when it's because he lost an argument.
With all due respect, we dont know either of you personally and quite frankly we dont care. This is an online forum. Log out and go outside.

From my point of view, it really sounds like you want to derail the thread again. Such a shame, really, because it was just getting on track, and everything was fine until you decided to start **** for no reason.

Sorry, but that's a bunch of malarkey.

This thread has been sinking for a couple days now

Yes, I'm noticing a heavy list to port.

It's also important to remember that while we know the VP will be attacked by Trump, Harris was the only one in the primary who he really couldn't land a good attack on. Plus, there were numerous articles especially around her surge that said she was the one who he was most worried about.

Apart from Kamala, who has been the most active VP prospect? Talk shows, fundraisers etc.

Something she shares with Michelle Obama. Donald may be a fool, but he isnt THAT foolish to go after them.

Anyone watching the Biden event in case of an (unlikely) announcement?

It’s 6 days until August 1. Can’t tell if that’s inside information or just him thinking August 1 is the day.

I would have waited longer, symbolism be damned. Biden doesn't need anything about the race to change yet. Adding any kind of unknown comes with some degree of risk.

Not to mention the fact that the symbolism doesn't really 'apply' to any date except Aug. 18th, which - as Day 2 of the DNC - was already the (presumable) day that the running mate would receive their voice-vote nomination by acclamation.

Is it really that horrible a move for Biden to announce on the 1st compared to the 17th/18th?

I'm almost inclined to think that folks don't want Biden to announce his running mate until that person walks towards the podium on the 19th (Which honestly does sound exciting) or the day before the first ballots gets mailed
