You never know, a NH pick could come in handy. The state wasn't supposed to be close in 2016 and Trump almost won.
Jeanne Shahenn had been willing to be on Gore's list when she was in her fourth year as Governor of New Hampshire.

Bush won the state by a small margin (48.07% to 46.80%)

Given that running mates from smaller states add more to a ticket it probably would have made enough of a difference.

Enough with Senators already! What is it with Democrats picking Senators anyway?

If NH is in serious danger of flipping, Biden has already lost the election, so not sure how adding Hassan or Shaheen would benefit him. Choosing Abrams would definitely make more sense.

No, the state was very much considered in play in 2016. Nearly everyone thought NH was more winnable for Republicans than WI/PA for President and Senate.

Senators have demonstrated an ability to win statewide office, and should be familiar enough with national issues to avoid serious gaffes.

Democrats do seem to believe in the power of the federal government, so that's another facet.

He would need somebody with distance from Washington, unless he's planning on going all-in on the experience/qualified sell.

Hilda Solis would be an excellent pick for him to straddle both. She'll have been out of Washington for over seven years by convention day, reinforces the Obama connection, and has strong labor cred.

Those are all terrible ideas.  Can we please stop pretending that Biden wouldn't choose Kamala Harris as his running mate?  She's the only reasonable choice.

Trump's campaign would have a field day if Harris were Biden's running mate

They'd replay their debate exchanges

Is Harris qualified to be VP? Yes.

Would Harris be the best choice for Biden, strategically, if he were the nominee? No.

Has there been a Biden-Harris debate moment that would hurt Biden in the general?  I can't think of one.  Anyway, Harris is a black woman who is properly credentialed (a Senator!).  Plus, she actually wants to be president.  She's the only person who meets those criteria, and she's the closest he could get to recapturing that old Obama/Biden magic.  Everybody needs to stop overthinking this.  If Biden is the nominee, Harris will be his running mate.

My first choice for his running mate would California Representative Nanette Barragan. She's progressive, but not too far left either, latina and would be 44 years young on election day. I've seen her in some interviews and was impressed.

Stacey Abrams better runs for governor again in 2022, if Joe Biden wants a black woman, I think Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is a solid pick. Not the classic vice presidential candidate, but she could bring in new perspectives. My opinion of Kamala Harris has dropped, I'm not sure she would be the best choice for him.

Gretchen Whitmer would be an excellent pick as well, even though she's just in her first term as governor.

I'd like Mayor Pete, too, but he's better for a cabinet appointment. Sally Yates should be appointed Secretary of Homeland Security. Would also make a good attorney general, but I prefer Andrew Cuomo or Doug Jones, respectively. Please not Hassan or Shaheen.

I agree with this. I know we have already said this both, but Barragan would be an excellent choice for Biden. She's young, smart, dynamic, and telegenic (which for a woman definitely helps).

Amy Klobuchar, Tammy Duckworth, and Maria Cantwell would be far better possible VP among female Senators

Picking Klobuchar would be just stupid. She doesn't bring anything he wouldn't have already in terms of a coalition of voters

Oh, COME on. No Senators from states with GOP Governors.

That includes Sherrod Brown.

I'm not sure about sitting Senators at all. I would say Duckworth would be fine, but then I remember Dems somehow managing to lose IL-SEN in 2010. (2010 memories are all these traumatic fever dreams...worst election of my life, 2016 included)

Many Dems from back in the day apparently said 1994 was a worse election night for them then 1980 .

I don’t see how 2010 though compares because like 2018 , it seemed obvious for months how the election would go and at the Senate level just like the GOP in 2018 you could argue the Democrats actually outperformed expectations.

They were talking about KLB only. She has endorsed him.

I do agree he’d be leading in GA regardless.

Biden won his first election 50 years ago, so he's probably developed some thick skin by now. And he'd be dumb not to consider her; she's a great pick on paper.

No rancor, he's being classy. This is why he has the character to be president.

I always thought that she would at least be considered by Biden or another white male nominee.

Harris had the most CBC endorsements. They will definitely put pressure on Joe to make Kamala his VP.

Abrams is running for Governor again. No other younger woman will get as much attention as Harris.
