Terrific! 8 years of crazy AOC pushing for crazy policies and we're winning both rural Iowa and white suburbans Smiley.

Who is we dude? You are from effing Netherlands.

I'm an internationalist showing solidarity to my fellow right-wingers Smiley. Besides, everything is a Dutch invention. Everything is ours.

WWC are afraid of Mexicans stealing their land, "disagree" with homosexuality and transgender people, and want the country to be whiter in all regards. We've known this for decades. But some people still have a fetish for seeing Arkansas and West Virginia go blue on maps from 1996. It's not economic anxiety, it's their extreme disgust that America is becoming a diverse, inclusive country and they don't want to see that happen. All this enamoring over "Make America Great Again" is a clear indication that these people think America isn't great.... and have they ever articulated why? The economy is certainly better than it was in 2008, 2009, and onwards. Is it because they want to curb mass shootings? Well, obviously not. Is it because they want to stop workplace discrimination against LGBTQ? No, not that either. Is it because they want to alleviate the misery and paint migrants go through every day in domestic work and at the border? Definitely no. So what are they trying to make great "again"? Sounds like MAGA, for them, is just a big F**k You to anybody who isn't a white right-wing populist depressed former iron worker in Flopville, Michigan. Oh but I'm sure all the Republican'ts and moderates will tell me how wrong I am.

Bernie supporters and socialists need to understand that their base doesn't lie in WWC of these areas, it lies in the multi-ethnic working class, youth, and economic left in cities and many suburbs. Y'all want to find people who have an axe to grind with capitalism and moderate third way liberals? Well, look to urban people of color and not to rural-industrial lily white communities in the midwest. Just because those whites like the concept of unions and vote for state initiatives concerning medicare and welfare and marijuana DOES NOT mean they A.) want it for other communities or B.) means they will support a President who has those policies. These state ballot initiatives pass in places like Missouri because they don't have the Democratic Party attached to them, and it's in no way the Dems fault and moreso the result of poor welfare whites association with them, for some reason, as an anti-white party that is supported by black welfare queens and land-thieving immigrants. These are the WWC, sorry about it.

It's a valid debate whether or not to "pursue" Romney-Clinton or Obama-Trump voters LONGTERM.  However, it's not valid to equate "rural whites" with "Obama-Trump," as many Clinton supporters and the gal tweeting did.  No Democrat literally anywhere is suggesting becoming the party of rural Whites (to the extent that has any meaning), and no Democrat is suggesting chasing after literal conservatives.  The very small minority of "WWC" voters who DID vote for Obama aren't usually the types saying shlt like that or holding extreme social positions.  This forum acts like Obama-Trump voters are more conservative than Romney-Trump voters, LOL.

Gretchen Whitmer, who's bought by Blue Cross and Blue Shield and supports ABOLISHING ICE- #populist Purple heart, wins rural areas in MI Gov primary(areas Bernie overwhelmingly won against Hillary)
Abdul-El Sayed, for single payer and free college and programs that would help poor people- OMG IDENTITY POLITICS ELITIST, loses badly in rural areas in MI Gov primary

Really, they voted against Sayed because
1. He was arab
2. He spoke articulately and was too intelligent
PS- I know Whitmer is progressive on everything else, I just wanted to use her as an example

These people are hopeless.

Alright, I feel that I should make a response.

First of all, the evidence presented by the Twitter thread is rather fraudulent and poor as:

A. The area visited was not ancestrally Democratic, but ancestrally Republican

B. This wasnt really a scientific study

C. The writer in question was clearly biased

I dont get why we are even looking at stuff like this. We just had an election, we have proof, and, TBH, it kinda goes both ways.

Some Rurals did trend R, most notably in OH, IN, and ND. But some rurals did trend D, even after accounting for the wave. The Rurals of Western MT, of IA, and of ME went the other way.

I should also note that there was a large correlation between the type of WC area, and how it trended. In general, as there was some exceptions, WC rurals trended R, with the exceptions being in ME, PA, and in NY. WC areas that had a suburb, or declining city, think Duluth, Erie, or Kenshoa, these areas trended D.

It should also be noted that WWC /=/ Rural area. The two are not synonymous. Losing NE-03 isnt a loss of WWC voters.

What Im trying to get at is that blanket statements like the ones made dont reflect the nuances of politics, that WOW wont vote like the Boston suburbs, or that MT wont vote the same way as IA.

Who is we dude? You are from effing Netherlands.

Normally i would say ignore our small clan of Euro-Fascists, but it is vaguely relevant to Iowa as the only reason white nationalist Steve King is still in Congress are the hypocritical Dutchmen that inhabit the NW counties of Iowa.  You'll find several counties in that part of Iowa with mysteriously large populations of Hispanics all being employed by the "good" racist hicks.

They do seem to be paranoid about what they're up to as the recent article about the Nunes family farm demonstrated

https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a23471864/devin-nunes-family-farm-iowa-california/

Hopefully, their farms can all be raided and they can all be sent back to Europe even if they've been here for 150 years or so.

An extremely online unemployed writer with multiple grad degrees has a take on whites in the rural United States.

In Iowa there are two words for that: Who cares?

Whoever was responsible for sending this person to Oskaloosa as a political organizer should be fired, escorted from the premises, and forbidden from working on any Democratic campaign.

Said the privileged white guy from his New York City apartment.

P.S. The fact that Bernie bros are having a seizure over these comments is the most convincing argument that she is telling the truth.

We need to be able to compete in some of these smaller places to get anything done. I'm not talking about doing well in them again, but I am saying that we need to turn this senate map

into something like this one-

https://www.270towin.com/maps/ApYe9 (which if you split to EVs from the split states, you have a D presidential victory) but still a small, but comfortable R majority

to

something like this one-
https://www.270towin.com/maps/OnrzE

And maybe half of those in the yellow states will be allied with the religious right, libertarians, or some other paleoconservative  lobby. But at least they will be dems and know, like Bob Casey who himself was conservative until fairly recently, that as long as you more or less agree with the Democrats on older more bread and butter issues, you will fall in line on judicial issues.

^Maybe not a great choice for directing Democratic outreach in areas where more than 19 in 20 voters are non-Hispanic white.

That's my view from Park Slope, anyway. Wink

OMG, she made a joke about white guys. What a feminazi.

Says the guy who until ten minutes ago thought Mahaska County was a Marvel character.

That random person has talked to thousands of rural whites.
But I guess a random guy from India (or Seattle) has a much better insight on how these people are thinking.

I mean, its pretty clear by now that the tweets, along with the source, arent credible in any way, shape, or form. We have voter data now from the election, and it doesnt tell the blanket story about how the rurals went 90-10 R.

Dont know why you have WI as yellow in both cases, but MI as Blue, considering MI will be harder for Ds to hold. Also, PA will probably enter Blue status, looking at population growth, and what happened on election night.

People making six figures don't need to worry about paid family leave. Their companies offer it to both men and women nowadays. And at that level of income, they probably ought to send their kids to private school to keep them away from the undesirables. And I'm so sure, they want extra competition for their children in college applications and the job market.

Many, many upper middle class suburban families (if not a decisive majority) live in areas with high-performing public schools. If your local high school has top-notch academics and athletics, why bother paying over 10k/year for a private school?
