The new constitution officially took effect at Noon EDT (sestak you devil). If you are a member of congress incumbent or new, you need to post your oath in the swearing in thread and I encourage you to please do so as soon as possible. Also if you have jumped the gun, you might want to definitely re-post in this situation.

      Quote
      1. Except as otherwise specified within this article, the provisions of this constitution, once ratified by two thirds of the regions, shall take effect and supersede the Fourth Constitution at noon Eastern Daylight time on the Second of July in the year two thousand and twenty-one.

There are no rules presently governing this chamber, therefore it falls to the Constitution to determine administration of the chamber. As such the Vice President will administer the debate and passage of the rules as well as the election of the President Pro-Tempore.

      Quote
      2. The Vice President shall be the President of the Senate, but shall only have a vote in the chamber when the Senate be equally divided.

While it is possible to go ahead and elect a PPT on the basis of the constitution alone establishing its existence, but the constitution does not set out the proceedings for doing so just that it is to happen, whereas the VP is already elected and in office (once oath is posted). I certainly have no complaints regarding doing the election under various rules suspension (hehe suspending non existent rules), especially if the Vice President prefers or needs to delegate at this point.

      Quote
      5. The Senate shall elect a President pro tempore to preside over the body in the absence of the President of the Senate as well as any other officers as it so chooses, and shall have sole authority to determine its own methods of proceedings.

Scott has a rules text that he has crafted with the input of several people, as well as myself, and I expect that to be introduced some time today. I sent a recommendation on how to do this, basically having to motion for it to be brought up included in the same introduction post (in the introduction thread) at the same time it is introduced and of course the VP would preside over the debate and passage.

And now for the bombshell, I will not be running for President Pro-Tempore this session. As many of you know I am trying to maneuver my way back into school and it has been my desire to step down for some months. I am willing to assist the new PPT in whatever way they may desire.

However, I am determined to ensure that we do not make the same mistakes that were made in July 2016 when the Fourth Constitution was implemented, as such I have been active in the discussions with Scott over the rules and I intend to be active in reviewing them, re-reviewing them etc on the floor.

In terms of all of the old bills that passed one chamber but not the other, they basically need to come before the new Senate, regardless of which chamber they were in, coming from or going to. However, it might be easier to do this after the rules are established first.

This took a bit as it was a month out of date, but I finally got the index updated again. This was originally one of many things planned for Tuesday, but got bounced because of the more important school work. I generally prefer to update this close to the election so people can see what I have done this session.

      A little update on things.

I expected the weekend through Tuesday to be brutal and it most certainly was. The good part is now that inventory is over, I am hoping that work will stabilize in terms of draining so much of my time and energy the way it has over the past week or so. I was also able to get caught up and ahead on my assignments for my class.

There are two major things though for both regards to be consider. Post inventory usually means larger and more trucks at work, which will be demanding physically though not quite as bad as the past week has been. Second my first unit test for my class is next week and my ability to get on for extended hours on Tuesday depends on how long that takes as my priority obviously is to pass that class.

I will do what I can to get caught up before work today and over the next couple of days. I know we have the knew session coming up and my sincerest hope is that this next session will be better all around then the last one as people settle into their new semesters and such forth.

I took my final test today for Business Law and got a 90 on it. That is my lowest grade in the class.

A few hours ago I reviewed all of the Senate threads and compiled an amendment tracker for this session in my personal files, which I have historically maintained for years even when not serving as PPT (exceptions being 2015-2016 and the senate side from 2017-2018 since I was focused on House as Speaker). I maintained it publicly for bgwah in late 2011 as well.

I have also given up on my multiple computer setup for now and consolidated into the Windows Ten build, meaning I am now longer using a screen 5 feet to my left to view discord (And also complete all of my school assignments I would add) while using severely outdated browsers to function on Atlas. I finally decided to try this two nights ago when I got off work. The first reason is because of the test mentioned above and getting tired of the whole five feet at left angles thing. The other reason is because the fans in the XP machine have gotten really noisy and I am sure the hard drive is about to go again as well (it failed the diagnostics tests I have from the manufacturer for first time. It was New Old Stock when I got it around the time my Mom was in the hospital but that was 4 years ago almost and the life span on HDDs is 4 to 5 years and I ran the hell out of it these last four years) and I would rather preserve it for another cloning operation then wear it out beyond that point.

The thing that has prevented me from doing this is this is the monitors I have are all DVI and VGA and the DVI ports on the R7 250 video card that I am "temporarily using" (supply chain shortages, price spikes etc have not abated in the past year on video cards, and used market is a disaster with scammers, price gouging and so forth) don't have the mounting posts, so the connector just sits on the port. I was connecting it to the TV via a very long HDMI cable to get around this problem.

I have my eye on a new monitor but I am waiting for some more money to come in. A new monitor with both DVI and HDMI would solve this problem allowing me to use HDMI for the new build and DVI for the XP computer and using the monitor mode switch if I want to retro game. I am looking at the Asus VS228H-P for this purpose. If any of you have any advice on alternatives or horror stories on this one please share them.

This is unfortunately a week behind now, but at least it was updated up through last Tuesday, the twelfth.

Somehow in the space of a couple of weeks post holidays, we went from having dodged most of the excesses of the Great Resignation to losing most of our people where I work. This means more physically demanding days and more days generally, which has done a number on me. I have long suffered from fatigue, muscle aches and headaches going back some years. When I had Covid a year ago, these were stirred up again and have not really subsided back down to the 2019/2020 situation when there had been some improvements there. I am also having random bouts of chest pain since I had Covid, and I have had this at least twice in the last week.

As for the class work, I had set myself up well last week in terms of school work only to lose that advantage thanks to the above situation and I just came off twelve hours of continuous work on such matters to get caught back up. It doesn't help that this week that just started is shorter for the one class because of something involving MLK day extending last week and so it ends on the Monday instead of Tuesday and so most of the stuff that I would have done this weekend and next Tuesday, I felt compelled to complete tonight. The end result is that I spent 12 hours today to get a satisfactory point.

From the time I got up Saturday, I have had near continuous chest pain of varying severity. This reached its worst point Sunday evening and Monday morning, so I went to the emergency room. I spent over six hours there and with that I got both good news and bad news.

The good news is that they did several tests and my heart is in good condition or so they say. This has shifted their focus to my lungs and their presumptive diagnoses is inflammation of the left lung caused by exposure to extremely cold environment (short periods of auditing overstock bins in the deep freezer at work). I would also posit that the humidity and heat exposes it to an opposite problematic extreme. It has eased, but it has not gone away. I have been proscribed medication and referred to a specialist for further testing on my lungs. This was what my primary care doctor wanted me to do last year after I had covid and the lingering chest/lung issues that it caused, but getting an appointment at the time was rather problematic obviously and then the issues with my primary care doctor moving offices caused further delays as well.
