We have some very devout Christian members here, and I am seriously interested in their opinion of the billboard below.  This is a sincere desire for their viewpoints, and I request that the thread not descend into snark.

It's clearly intended as parody by whoever did it, but it is not particularly effective or funny. Trump's actions and words do show that he treats himself as his own god.

Trump reminds me a lot of King David.

I really don't get it at all. Are they trying to imply Trump is the Word made flesh? If so, this doesn't really indicate that. It makes Trump look like an over-zealous televangelist.

Whatever the case, it's weird and I'm not a fan.

Trump is the messianic figure who’ll combat the Antichrist in the Great War of Amargeddon that shall usher in the Rapture, thereby freeing all the purified, true Christian souls from their earthly war and ascending them to heaven. The Antichrist will be a liberal Democrat and will trigger the great American Civil War II that’ll engulf the globe. Trump, allied with Israel, will defeat Gog and Magog, which is the Democrats and the Europeans Union.

Heretical for sure, but not very surprising at this point.  This is basically Amerikkkan Christianity in a single image.

Yes, saying Trump is God is sacrilegious. No, no Christian is going to stop supporting Trump because some crazy person put up a sacrilegious billboard.

This is from the beginning of the book of John, which addresses some of the conflicting ideas about Jesus by saying he always existed as God ("The Word") and didn't suddenly come into being when he was born.

It's implying Trump is Jesus. It's bizarre and definitely heretical.

Any personality cult is heresy. Any comparison of anyone not Jesus to Jesus in Christendom is heresy.

Agreed.

Heresy would imply serious belief, not some disgusting joke.

Religion, unfortunately, is very political, and always has been.

Relax, things will calm down a little (perhaps very little), after tomorrow.

At the very least we won't be seeing as many horrible political ads.

I don't like the toxic nature of politics, but it hard to avoid if you want to discuss politics.

I realize that Trump didn't cause this toxicity, and that he is the product rather than the creator of it, but he does contribute to it. So is it fair for his supporters to complain when he reaps what he sews?

This. I would also plan out to those individuals claiming this is an obvious joke that they should check out the Facebook website and their response to inquiries. I'm not at all convinced. It would not Shock me if it was, let's not forget the anecdotal statements of many many Trump supporters that he was a gift to America from God.

If the group is doing this as a joke, they're certainly going out of their way to invest money for an electronic billboard, not to mention holding their fire in terms of playing the gotcha card.

Again, wouldn't be shocked if it's a parody, but there's some people in this thread who need to accept there's a better than even chance it's not. And that they openly collaborate with idolaters.

This is seemingly worded to suggest that it is significantly better to be a blasphemer than an idolater. I'm skeptical that is the case.

As for collaboration with either, it would be difficult to do most things in American politics without collaborating with either, so long as one sticks with major-party politics. Indeed very few people are able to be deeply politically involved without turning their politics into an idol. As for the merits of collaboration, I'm open to argument for either position on this one, or some nuanced intermediate, so long as it's held consistently.

Definitely heresy.

What's just as worrying among the (politically) conservative Christians is their idolatry perversion of patriotism. It is just as much bad theology as the (theologically) liberal Christians who decide to ignore or re-interpret any parts of the bible that they don't like.
