What is interesting is the fact that Putin hasn't been meddling in this.
The Chechnyan President Ramzan Kadyrov has unusual influence over Moscow, allowing for Chechnya to be his fiefdom. I wouldn’t have expected for Putin to risk sidelining the other ethnic republics for Chechnya though, considering that the other republics are actually easier to manage than Chechnya.
