A lesbian couple married in Vienna today.

Here's why this is possible:

Gay marriage will become legal in Austria in slightly more than 2 months: on Jan. 1, 2019.

But the Constitutional Court ruling legalizing it said that the 5 plaintiffs challenging the ban (5 gay couples) were allowed to marry right after the ruling.

The first couple did so today, in a private ceremony, without the media present.

Excellent.

Women tie the knot in Austria’s first same-sex marriage

By Associated Press October 12 at 11:32 AM

Two women have tied the knot in Austria’s first same-sex marriage, months after the country’s Constitutional Court ruled to legalize it.

Vienna’s city government said the wedding took place Friday at a registry office in the capital. Austrian media reported that the women who married at a private ceremony were one of the couples whose case prompted the court ruling in December.

Same-sex couples in Austria have been allowed to enter civil partnerships since 2010. All will be able to marry starting Jan. 1, 2019. The five couples involved in the court case were allowed to marry earlier.

On Thursday, the parties in Austria’s center-right governing coalition announced they were giving up their resistance to same-sex marriage and accepting the court ruling.

Two lipstick lesbians together?  That's kind of unusual, no?

Good, but it should have happened because the legislature voted for it, not because of a court verdict.

True, but in this case the LGBTs would have to wait another 20-50 years ... Tongue

(Austria only had right-wing majorities in parliament for the past 35 years and this is unlikely to change soon.)

Almost every woman I've been with is a fem, and I'm one too.

I guess I could see why some people think this but anecdotally, it doesn't add up in my experiences. I've seen plenty of pairs of the same type. In fact I'm very much not attracted to butch at all.

Oh, ok.

I still wish them the best, even if they "married" in the US or wherever Getty Images is located ...

According to the stats that picture was taken in London.
But don't get annoyed about it. Everybody has the right to fall for fake pics. 😁

This reminds me of my favourite thread in Atlas history: "Hot or Not: Kim Yo Jong"?

Yeah. If a girl likes girls, they should go with girls who look like girls. If they like girls who look like guys, are they really even gay or more bisexual or what have you? I will admit that I don't know much about what its like to be a gay woman (obviously).  This is written in the most absolute form of naiveté. If anyone could candidly talk about this, let me know!

Is it not likely that the OeVP would've softened their stance on the issue at some point, like the CDU?
