I just found out that my favorite professor from college died of ALS a couple weeks ago.

I feel for my sanity, I should stop reading the news. The news is a poisonous thing that surrounds the mind with only bad things: Fear and Uncertainty. As I've thought it over, I realized that the news has very little utility in my day-to-day life.

I've probably lost so much faith that the news is covering the current COVID crisis. All the news does is report numbers. how am I supposed to sympathize with numbers on a page? I don't see the bodies nor do I see the victims. Does it really help to remind people that are dying? Frankly, the human mind cannot comprehend the difference between 10,000 and 100,000 deaths. It seems like a giant blur thinking about it.

Does anyone share these kinds of sympathies with me? Something is rotten in the heart of the press.

I slept from 4:30 pm to 10, and still feel pretty s**t rn.

Definitely sick with something, but doesn't seem like corona.

I've been ignoring most news during this whole quarantine and my mental health is certainly better for it. I do think that covering the numbers is important but... it certainly doesn't cover the real problems, though if they did it could be even more depressing, I don't know.

college classes starting to go 100% online now. So far it's only 2 (MA 125 and one of my MET classes) but I'm almost certain that'll expand. Wouldn't be surprised if we only have 1 or 2 classes that are in person (mostly to keep the international students, iirc they're like 15-20% of the student population)

While studying for the LSAT, I have come across a shady treasure trove of official LSAC-administered tests complete with answer keys. If anyone here is thinking of applying to law school anytime soon, PM me and I can show you how to access the PDFs.
Wow, so much lost potential. You're a smart and creative guy, you should be starting your own business or something.

With how much he enjoys talking about... other things, I am myself slightly mystified as to the whole "lawyer" thing.

Mild health scare these past few weeks. All is well.

However, to the 99% of Forumers who have balls, familiarise yourself with them and visit your doctor if anything changes or doesn't feel right.

This seems like a good time to take a break. I'll probably be back at some point in September. Stay well, folks.

The two row of palms along the promenade at the seafront in La Spezia are beautiful. However, I would be very happy if every oleander in the city were ruthlessly cut down.

My girlfriend's cat needs life-saving surgery, but we can't afford it. If you can chip anything into our gofundme, we would really appreciate it.

Today was my last day at work for the org I've been at since February 2018. On to grad school and trying to get an appointment at the visa office that just reopened in the middle of a pandemic.

I bought several hundred dollars worth of (admittedly cheap) champagne for a friend's birthday on Friday night, sh**t got wild, everything in my house smells like champagne now.

When I was on holiday in the United States this February I went searching for a 1$ coin.
I got it on the day of my return flight. I gently asked the keeper of the store where I had just bought a skirt for my girlfriend if she could give me a 1$ coin as part of the change, and she was so kind she directly gifted me one as a souvenir.

you know ive always thought it is weird how I have little red tinges in my hair and sure enough I do have them. My regular hair is on the right, and one of the red tinges I cut is on the left. All I can say is that it definitely isnt from my Indian paternal side like the rest of my hair lol, but my Russian maternal side. Oh also, my mom has the same phenomenon.
