It’s just that people get to be Anonymous on these types of forums so many people behave in ways they otherwise wouldn’t

I definitely agree with this. Anonymity can bring out the worst in people, since they know that they're not going to face repercussions for what they say.

This.

People are too free to call people racists, sexists, homophobes, xenophobes, and such around here simply because they advocate issue positions the are not part of the political agendas of organized minorities, feminists, LGBT, and immigration advocates.  These are mass constituencies with political agendas, and being against an agenda does not mean you are biased against them as people.  Often, however, these groups advocate policies that, however beneficial to these individual groups may be, are not, IMO, beneficial to the whole of America.

That sort of opposition does not make you a racist, sexist, etc.  In the real world, such slander can cause one real economic harm.  It can also cause one to be able to sue the slanderer and prevail in court.  And, quite frankly, many people turn to those epithets to avoid an intellectually honest defense of their policies.

I'm not going to tolerate being called any of those names, and I'm going to push for the banning of people that do.  I'm not going to ignore them; I'm going to push, and push, and push, and push for their banning until THEY go away, or stop the slander and stick to discussions on policy.  But I'm not going to go to sleep and ignore them while they trash me.

There is, very much, a difference between criticizing one's argument and defaming someone and slandering and libeling their character.  I won't stand for that.  It's not allowed in the ToS.  That's why no one is going to be on my ignore list.  If they're going to slander and libel me (which is different than criticizing my, or my viewpoints), I'm going to fight back.

well, there's a fair amount of alienation and infighting even within those groups. which can make it somewhat problematic treating them as some sort of political monolith. even if obviously they're heavily democratic constituencies

No one. If I don't like someone I just ignore their posts by not reading them.

I did have 1 or 2 ignored because of huge obnoxious signatures until I learned how to disable them though

I have olowakandi and The impartial spectator on my ignore. The latter is because he keeps gifs in his signatures and I don't want to waste data.

This thread LOL.

A chronological list of mentally fragile Democrat supporters with a level of personal confidence inversely proportional to the length of their ignore list.

Might need to grow a heart muscle larger than the size of a pea if you want to survive the next 60 years of your life.

I've a hard time remembering Atlas usernames (esp. since you can have two ones), and i don't get agitated as much.

A surprisingly large number of people when I checked the list, but most are long since banned.

Still no one ... if you could make it so that you don't see their posts at ALL, I might consider it.  I accidentally ignored someone when I was trying to quote them one time, so I have seen what it looks like when you have someone on ignore, and I would definitely get too curious and always show their posts, haha.  So, there isn't really a point.

The only person on my ignore list hasn't posted in over a decade, I don't think moderators should have long lists.

I haven't been here long obviously, so I haven't really grown to dislike any user enough to put them on ignore, although a handful (James Monroe, ChairmanSanchez, and Hofoid come to mind immediately) are likely to end up there sooner or later unless they stop posting the kind of comments they post currently.

The new feature is great! Especially for LimoLiberal since people kept quoting him inexplicably.
