Let's rephrase it this way: would you care if they erected a statue of, say, Gandhi or Mother Theresa or Nelson Mandela in the capital city of Uzbekistan, would it get it's own thread?

Elie Wiesel was born in Romania, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and an influential American, the first of which negates your Uzbekistan comparison and the latter two of which lend themselves to being of interest to Atlas. The statue was unveiled on Romania's Holocaust remembrance day. Sure, it is not earthshattering news, but I really cannot see any reason to minimize this, especially considering you haven't had the compusion to so quickly wave off other news articles recently posted, some of which are far more obscure and insignificant.

Unless, that is, you're trying to minimize something else...
