I'm not theoretically opposed to a conservative judge being nominated, but Kavanaugh's baggage and lying under oath (possibly) disqualifies to him for me.

This isn't a binary issue. Collins' moderate credentials have been crumbling over the last year and this is the final straw. Her broad coalition of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents that have elected her in the past are gone.

Unfortunate, but at least the energy surrounding the Kavanaugh bump can be deflated a bit and save the midterms for the Dems. Hmm, perhaps SCOTUS can reverse Roe v. Wade now and further encourage Dems to vote.
