Then why all this posturing by her.

This is Susan Collins we are talking about. If you look up "posturing" in the dictionary, you will find a picture of Susan Collins. She is the very definition of posturing.

TBH, I don't think Collins will run for Re-Election in 2020....likely to be primaried by Governor Paul LePage if she votes NO.

I'm not sure if we will, because our leadership is too "MUH INSTITUTIONS" to do anything, but we absolutely should.

The GOP loves to be power hungry, why shouldn't we play their game? The next time we have a federal trifecta, we should nuke the filibuster entirely, pack the courts (I want non-partisan justices but that isn't going to happen), and make DC/PR states so we have 4 very secure Senate seats. That is at the bare minimum.

If there were no Democratic primary, you might be right. But the passion and anger about this on the left, especially among Progressive women (a pretty strong majority of Dem primary voters, given the increasing gender gap) is very real, very deep, and is not just going to get away. They will be demanding this in the 2020 Dem Primary. The grandstanding we have already seen from Cory Booker etc is only the beginning.

I can't wait for the suspense tomorrow:

Murkowski & Manchin vote NAY; Collins & Flake vote AYE. Senate stuck in limbo at 49-50 awaiting Daines to come back and provide the pivotal deciding AYE vote and Pence eagerly awaits to break the tie. Daines comes back and surprises everyone by voting NAY saying he changed his mind after talking with his daughter at her wedding.

Add in the plane being delayed by weather or mechanical problems. Wink

I think Collins is more at risk in a primary from voting no than she is in a general voting yes (where enough gullible “independents” will forget this in a few days, let alone two years).

I think so too.

Agreed!

We're living in the midst of the #MeToo movement. If Kavanaugh is confirmed, then I definitely think that how Senators voted on him will be remembered.

That is true, but she has absolutely no need to actually run as a Republican. She can easily run and basically automatically win as an Independent-caucusing-with-Rs like Angus King is an Independent-caucusing-with-Ds, and like Murkowski was elected.

This will be Collins last STRAW in her Political Career no matter how she votes. She got lucky in 2008 when she should have lost and got lucky again in 2014 when she was up for Election in a good Republican Year.

Manchin is going to be yes. So, doesn't matter what Collins will decide. And ffs she should have decided already, what a stupid circus is she making, just making it worse for herself whatever she decides.

It sure does take a lot of luck to win 61% of the vote in a state where your party’s presidential nominee only got 40%.

Can't wait for the sexual predator who thinks it's OK for disabled people to be forced to have elective surgeries without their consent to be on the Supreme Court. /s

I think it is pretty much inevitable at this point that Dems will pack the Court at the next opportunity. Court packing and investigating and impeaching Kavanaugh will be a major issue in the 2020 Dem Primary, with all the candidates trying to out-do each other.

We're going to have to wait for some Senators to be replaced I imagine. Leahy made some rumblings that he wanted to bring back the blue slip "tradition" even though Republicans have made it clear they will get rid of any rule or tradition that gets in the way of confirming judges. He wasn't alone in that either, but I can't remember the other(s). The stupidity of these Democrats is downright astonishing at times. They are too naive for this era of politics, and while they may have favorable views and may otherwise be good lawmakers / decent people, Democrats need cold blooded fighters until Republican long-term dominance in Congress has been neutralized. At the very least, they should be removed from the judiciary committee unless they accept that the Senate they want is not the Senate they are going to get anytime soon.

He wouldn't like to be deciding vote for sure, and even today he waited until he voted but still voted yes. He'll vote yes.

It's not going to make a difference how Collins votes at this point with the way Flake is going.
