I wonder when the window to force through another justice closes, assuming Democrats take the Senate. If Republicans are going to withdraw Kavanaugh and force through Barrett or whoever in the lame duck, they better start soon.

The window is closing very very rapidly. It may have already closed.

No, that's not quite true. If they vote on Kavanaugh tomorrow and it fails, they'll easily be able to confirm someone, assuming that confirmation goes smoothly, by the end of the lame duck session. Realistically, they could probably rush through the entire process during the lame duck session even if this ends up long and drawn out, they don't vote tomorrow, Swetnick testifies, the FBI starts investigating and Kavanaugh is withdrawn the night before the election. But the latter scenario seems pretty unlikely; the Republicans know they need to get Kavanaugh confirmed or out quickly.

It takes around a month for the nominee to prep for their hearings, and then 2-3 weeks for the Senate hearings and then the confirmation vote. They might be able to ram through Barrett by late November if they drop Kavanaugh quick.

Woman with a strong southern accent on C-SPAN, talking about "false rape". Wonder if she voted for Moore?

That would be the case if it wasn't election season. A good number of Senators, including members of the Judiciary Committee like Cruz, will be on the campaign trail. Fewer days to hold hearings, fewer days to get the confirmation.

The thing that struck out at me just watching this in the last 20 minutes is the nastiness - the childish, over-the-top lack of decorum that this man is showing - it's very revealing into his personality.

There is, frankly, an attitude that Brett Kavanaugh has - which is awkward.  It's as if the teenage boy is at this hearing and not the adult man.

Agree.

Can Kavanaugh, Mark Judge and others who knowingly lied on his behalf be charged with perjury if it can proved they are lying?

Lying before Congress is a felony crime. Think of the Kefauver committee that haled reputed mobsters before Congress. To avoid perjury they plead the Fifth. Lying to the FBI is another felony crime, as Bob Mueller has amply demonstrated.

Too bad about Bret Kavanaugh... he should have never allowed himself to be nominated for the Supreme Court with the skeletons in his closet. Some people think that they will not be caught.

Can anyone recall that he talked several times about liking beer? Underage drinking was much of teenage life back in the 1980s, but this fellow drank lots of beer and did not get drunk.

He's acting like the college frat boy he is when he is caught with weed in his dorm room by school officials.

It would be real nice if he answered any of Leahy's questions.

If Kavanaugh believes he is innocent, why does he not want 1) and FBI investigation and 2) his friend Mark Judge to testify?

His being combative with Democrats and Senate Democrats is going to calm fears among the Fox News crowd and Conservatives.

I'm just wondering if that's enough for 50 votes.

July 1st is the night of the incident, if the gathering is included in his calendar at all.
