While there is no reason not to take Ford's claims seriously, it is kind of sad how quickly people, based seemingly purely on partisan tribalism, are to throw out the presumption of innocence.

Really? No way?

Feinstein asked why Kavanaugh hasn't asked for an FBI investigation.

Kavanaugh's answer included a quick "I'll do what the committee wants" followed by further railing against the length of time it took to get the testiony scheduled (which is, of course, something set by the Republican majority.

They'd better grill him on his calendar argument. There's a whole empty week in May and parties on weeknights. Of course high school students drink on god damn weeknights during the summer, even if they have work the next day.

Kavanaugh's behavior makes this entire Ford situation completely immaterial.

He has shown the entire country that he lacks the temperament to be a Supreme Court justice.

No, she didn't.

Kavanaugh's reaction is worth it.

Jesus, this is embarrassing. I get that Trump's base will probably love this, since he's trying to be Trump/Alex Jones, but he's acting like a pissed off middle schooler having a temper tantrum.

Presumption of innocence is about criminal trials. We're not locking him up and throwing away the key. This talk is totally disingenuous. It is perfectly reasonable to reach judgments on less than "beyond-a-reasonable-doubt" outside of criminal trials. In fact, I think the integrity of the court demands that those with doubts favor the accuser in this scenario, since the harms done by confirming an actual rapist are far more serious than the harms done by turning down the nomination of someone falsely accused. Not being on the Supreme Court is not equivalent to being imprisoned, and, moreover, the societal harm from a rapist being on the Supreme Court is much higher than the societal harm from a single criminal not being imprisoned.

If only we had Donald Trump as President. He'd see through this whiny, persecuted facade and fire him on the spot.

I worry this makes him seem more sympathetic tbh, in the eyes of a lot of people.

Not me.

But a lot of people and based along mostly partisan lines.

OK. So far Kavanaugh is sounding very credible. But, if he's found to be lying, this will pretty much end his career.

Certain irony that after working on the Starr Report (with it's lurid details about Clinton's sex life) that Kavanaugh is now having to face something Clinton never had to- public questioning about his sex life.

A calendar is not going to be perfect like documenting that you met with a small group of friends at a house. That is just silly. I would not put too much weight on what is, or what is not, on a calendar.

Ugh. Getting put on the Supreme Court isn't a race. It's hardly been more than a week since this all came public. Investigations take time. People putting their lives on pause to testify takes time. Again, this is a temper tantrum. During the really hearings last week, Republicans assured Kavanaugh he would be confirmed. Now that he actually has to work to verify (or not) that he is worthy of the seat, he is upset it's not being handed to him on a silver platter as it seemed like it was going to be.

I do feel bad for his children. This would be an awful circumstance for any kid.

Shouting at the senators who will vote on your confirmation doesn't make you look very credible.

How Ford got to and from the venue came up. Somebody drove her. But she apparently can't recall how she got a ride home, after she escaped the house. Did she call someone? Was the driver at the venue? That needs to be fleshed out more.

Especially with the distance.  I'm less concerned with how she got there.  Ford, according to her account, ran from the house.  How she got home has to have been part of the trauma; she's out at night, running from someone that she though might accidentally kill her, and she doesn't remember what she did.  That is a pretty big gap in memory.

That said, I think something happened to Ford, but not the way she's describing it.

And how does and I quote not the way she described it, translate from she's not certain how she got home to she mistook her Salter for Brett Kavanaugh? Serious question
