Why can't Valdez avail herself of O'Rourke's popularity? I never expected her to win, but I din't expect her to trail by that much either. Is she a weak candidate, or has Abbott simply done a good job, especially regarding the handling of the Houston floodings?

It's both that Abbott is popular and Valdez is a pretty bad candidate.

The white collar Republicans that are going to cross over for O’Rourke are still Republicans. Cruz is a weird unlikeable c*nt and a Trump enabler. Abbot is a safe, regular Repub that has nothing to do with the Washington circus in their eyes.

I wonder what a Republican in Alabama finds weird and unlikable about Stacy Abrams.

I have seen thirteen-point leads evaporate -- but not often, and not this late.

Actually if the Never Trumpers in the GOP really want to topple Trump, they should get Abbott to challenge him as a peace and quiet candidate.   I do not believe that the Democrats will nominate a peace and quiet candidate.  Kasich is not a peace and quiet candidate. I think the public may like a peace and quiet candidate.
