Cuomo (i.) 63
Nixon        22

https://nypost.com/2018/09/10/cuomo-holds-massive-lead-over-nixon-as-primary-approaches/

Looks like there won't be any surprises at all.

Yup, the revolution is not happening.

Interestingly Cuomo's lead among women is bigger than among men.

real race is for AG...if Maloney wins he gives up his Trump +5 house seat and the REPS have a strong change to re-take it. Ugh.

Yea, I'm skeptical right now. The possible range is from a Cuomo earthslide to a narrow Nixon win, but I'm going with Cuomo +15.

Cuomo will probably win, but this result isnt realistic at all. Then again, it is Siena, so they probably pulled some strings for the incumbent.

Im more focused on the AG race, and if an electorate that is getting Cuomo+40 is finding mallony in the lead, then I have no idea who will win in the end.

Trump +2, actually. Considering the national environment, it's highly unlikely that republicans can take the seat even if Maloney wins the nomination.

Hopefully Teachout wins and then primaries Cuck Schumer in 2022 for the Senate

Being closed is probably the biggest advantage for Progressives in NY. Remember that the house races had one upset and two possible others due to this. In 2016, tit may have been a problem, but by now, the indies would probably just support the moderates.

The problem isnt just closed primaries but NY has some of the worst voting laws in the country:

I wouldn't rule it out. While Dems would still be favored, the replacement candidate would be forced to build an entire campaign from scratch only two months before the election. The local Democratic bench is also thin, with the strongest possible recruit, Assemblyman James Skoufis, already running for a crucial State Senate seat. Even if the Democrat won the seat due to the environment, a weak incumbent would be a severe underdog to Steve Neuhaus, the Orange County Executive, in 2020. It would be simpler electorally for James or Teachout to win (and Teachout would be far and away the best AG for cleaning up Albany as well, but that's neither here nor there).

How dare you question the pragmatic progressive that is Cuomo! I bet you support idealistic progressives like Nixon that will do less than Cuomo! Do the math! Cuomo has done like 3 things in his 4 years, Nixon would do 2 things! /s

On a serious note, I do think that getting the senate is the biggest priority. Cuomo only has the power of the veto, while the legislature can present him with the bills. Getting at least 4 IDC members out and taking the senate should be enough to get progressive stuff done.

I would want Maloney for AG, but given the nature of his seat, I want him to stay in congress.

Pre-clearance was required in parts of New York (and other northern states) before it was declared unconstitutional. It was not just a southern thing.

Including Brooklyn, where there was that voter purge in 2016.

Its true that 3 counties in NY had preclearance but instead of a formula determining which states and counties recieve pre-clearances...there should be an equal blanket set of requirements for all 50 states as to how they conduct their voting laws. Every state should be required to provide early voting, have same day registration, etc...

considering the rationale used in Shelby County vs Holder, pre-clearance for all 50 states would actually be less problematic than just for certain areas with histories of voter discrimination.
