Cuomo will probably win, but this result isnt realistic at all. Then again, it is Siena, so they probably pulled some strings for the incumbent.

Im more focused on the AG race, and if an electorate that is getting Cuomo+40 is finding mallony in the lead, then I have no idea who will win in the end.

Being closed is probably the biggest advantage for Progressives in NY. Remember that the house races had one upset and two possible others due to this. In 2016, tit may have been a problem, but by now, the indies would probably just support the moderates.

The problem isnt just closed primaries but NY has some of the worst voting laws in the country:

If the VRA is ever re-written...pre clearance needs to be required for all 50 states instead of just the South

Dont worry! Our progressive hero Cuomo will fix these problems, right?

No...but crushing the IDC and flipping the Senate will
How dare you question the pragmatic progressive that is Cuomo! I bet you support idealistic progressives like Nixon that will do less than Cuomo! Do the math! Cuomo has done like 3 things in his 4 years, Nixon would do 2 things! /s

On a serious note, I do think that getting the senate is the biggest priority. Cuomo only has the power of the veto, while the legislature can present him with the bills. Getting at least 4 IDC members out and taking the senate should be enough to get progressive stuff done.
