Weimar Republic election maps

(1/1)

I spent the winter writing songs about getting better:
Anyone have any? I've alwyas wondered in what areas the Nazis support was strongest, and the same for the communists. How did East Germany vote?

See : Bavaria.

J. J.:
"East Germany" didn't exist in the early 1930's, but much of it was Prussia and all of Saxony and several other states.  When Hitler took power in 33, Goring was the "Minister-President" of Prussia.

The Nazis had gained several Lander governments, including Mecklenburg Sterlitz, where there were in coalition in April 1932, and Anhalt and Mecklenburg, where were the majority in May and July 1932, respectively.  Both were in what would become East Germany.

The main division was north/south.  The Catholic south, including Bavaria, were late comers to the Nazis, despite Hitler being raised Catholic, being a long term resident of Bavaria, and identifying with Bavarian culture.

What you gotta understand is that there were three political "camps" in Germany and most movement from party to party was inside these camps:
Bourgeois (including everyone from the Democrats to the Nazis)
Catholic (Center and Bavarian People's Party)
Socialist (Social Democrat and Communist)
Hence, the Nazis did best in rural protestant areas, such as Northern Bavaria, much of East Germany (as defined then, ie east of the Elbe), Northern Hesse, etc.
