If their was any doubt that collins would vote to confirm Kavanaugh it was put to rest when the resistance idiots attempted to bribe her and then threatened her staff.

Why in the world are we accepting her idiotic definition of bribe?

Let's vote Collins out in 2020. Sadly there are no more real Rockefeller Republicans left; we ought to replace as many people as possible with an R through people with a D nest to their name. Not that Collins' nay vote would have mattered anyway. To prevent the confirmation, Lisa Murkowski also must vote no in addition to all Democrats. And Manchin will vote yes, just as Heitkamp and maybe Donnelly.

Democrats best hope is that Trump gets thrown out of office in 2020 and Ginsburg and Breyer make it through. If Democrats manage to keep the White House for eight or twelve years, Alito or Thomas might step down and we have 5-4 liberal majority.

Promising to donate to her opponent is not a bribe. It is a threat. One that is quite legal in our plutocracy, to the best of my understanding.

It's actually pretty much what the Supreme Court mandated: Money is Speech.

Susan Collins is an extremist right wing reactionary who doesn't like to be challenged.

lmao so Susan Collins is an extremist while Ocasio-Cortez is Center-Left hahahahahahaha

Either Collins is retiring in 2020 or she really is oblivious to how precarious a situation her political career is in. She's pissed off Republicans to the point she may very well lose her primary, and if she does survive she has to somehow win over all the democrats shes pissing off now. I know its tricky finding a happy middle, but Collins seems to have given up entirely on finding it.

You are deluding yourself if you think kavanaugh will matter in 2020, you'll throw a long temper tantrum but once he gets confirmed you'll find another shiny object, just like how all of you have forgotten about children at the border

It's nice of you to admit openly like this that you're a moral degenerate.

Putting the morality aside, he's absolutely right. Kavanaugh will be forgotten a month after he's confirmed by the vast majority of people once they see a new shiny object (and there are plenty thrown about every week by the clown in the White House.)

It really depends. If no major cases get decided on, yes, no one will remember. If Roe V. Wade gets overturned, you can bet Collins will get barraged with attacks for voting for the justice who let's it happen.

This^

Any decision restricting Roe, Obergefell, etc. will be laid at her feet.

Citizens United as I understand it specifically left the door open for bans on quid pro quo political spending.  I don't think the Court would find against this group but would make for an interesting case.

He'll probably get to replace Thomas before 2020. But there wont be nearly as much of a fight since his replacement wont change the makeup of the court.

quid pro quo: "a favor or advantage granted or expected in return for something." - If Collins votes against Kavanaugh, this group does her the 'favor' of returning the $1M they've collected to donors rather than giving it to whoever the eventual D nominee is.

Kavanaugh has responded to a large number of follow-up questions from members of the Judiciary Committee. Read his responses here: https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/Kavanaugh%20Responses%20to%20Questions%20for%20the%20Record.pdf

Questions came from all Democratic Members of the Committee, plus GOP members Chuck Grassley and Jeff Flake.

While the full senate has only a pro forma session tomorrow, the Judiciary Committee will still meet at 10 AM ET. They'll vote on a number of lower court nominations and officially "hold over" the Kavanaugh nomination to their meeting on Thursday, September 20. A stream will be available on the committee website.

Perhaps, though it’s fairly strained from the definition. And it’s 100% not a bribe.

There's a good chance Trump replaces thomas before 2020 if the republicans keep control of the senate, the chance Trump replaces RBG or Breyer also increases dramatically if he gets re-elected (both are getting up there in terms of age). So if Trump is re-elected it is not inconceivable for him to have the opportunity to name 5 scotus judges during his tenure

🤔

Obviously this is some cover-ass from Collins, who we all knew would vote for Kavanaugh as long as he didn't make it too obvious that he'd rule to overturn Roe.

Haha.

Different sources provided different accounts of the contents of the letter, and some of the sources said they themselves had heard different versions, but the one consistent theme was that it describes an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman while they were in high school

It appears Feinstein has been sitting on this letter for weeks, if it were serious she would have passed on much earlier or she would have asked him about it during the hearings. This is a sad hail-mary to attempt to delay his confirmation or gin up support from her idiot base
