I don't expect any real violence. Maybe a bit of ridiculous rioting, like the day off Trump's inauguration, but nothing more than that.

@ OP: No, despite everything that has happened, I believe most Americans support the democratic process and are ultimately committed to the rule of law.  Maybe that's naive, but as I once said to IceSpear a while back: If you give me the choice of assuming the worst of people and looking for the good in them, the latter just seems like a healthier way to approach life.  I've seen nothing to convince me this is something to worry about aside from a few nutballs although there may be some large peaceful protests, but that's fine.

Truthfully, no, but nothing would surprise me.

not at all.  If assholes act like assholes, there will be plenty of coverage to ruin their lives.  This is a good thing.

Worried? Not so much. It will more be either hope or utter despair.

I'm basically expecting violence from the right if Dems win to the point that I'm going to go out in public as little as possible for the week after.

I'm basically expecting violence from the anti-American left, whether they win or lose.

Sorry, buddy, but it's YOUR side cozying up with *Russia* and dictators across the world.  You guys block every attempt by Democrats to sanction Russia or try in any way to thwart the advances by Vladimir Putin to hack around with our elections.

If there is one side of the political spectrum that has shown itself to be in active disservice to America, it's the right.  You're on the anti-American side, and history is going to remember you and those like you as such.

There's still time for you to change.

In answer to the OP, I'm not concerned about violence in 2018.

In 2020, I am, and no matter what the result is.

In both elections, Russian interference is going to be higher than in 2016, and 2016 made it clear that Russia favors the current GOP.  If 2018 is not a clear blue wave, as polls indicate and as trends would suggest, it will literally boggle the mind, as there will have been two election cycles in direct contrast to polling and expert analysis.  It'll be extremely hard for Trump and the GOP to deny Russian meddling and collusion becomes much more obvious.

The results would further erode the legitimacy of the Government if the popular vote is won by the Democrats and the Republicans still hold all the marbles.

The most accurate post in the thread. People still have something to lose, albeit less to lose and the former will continue to remain true as long as the latter remains so.

That's exactly what I thought about trump right before the 2016 election.
And look what the American people did (well, I guess not in whole, but in a few key states).

If Democrats don't make substantial victories across the country, then I would lose all faith in this country.

Yep. My "faith meter" is already at critical levels.
