I'm surprised that no one ever responded to this. My guess would be a suburban Republican or independent who voted for Trump, because he or she thought he was the lesser of two evils, but strongly disliked Arpaio and disapproved of his controversial tenure as Sheriff. Many of these voters would go on to split their tickets for Sinema and Ducey in 2018. McCain-type Republicans would also fit into this category.

A person that didn't want Hillary for President but thought Arpaio had been in his role for too long.

Being convicted of a crime ends political careers. There's no recovery from that. It shouldn't be surprising that Arpio lost by such a convincing margin.

A Republican or Republican-leaning independent who's hated Hillary Clinton since 1991 but also has a conscience.

So they wanted a 70 year old one instead?

Interesting.

Arpaio actually only ran about 3 pts behind Trump, so it's a pretty thin sliver of the electorate you're looking at.

Trump has been a conman and a sexpest all of his adult life, so that's really not hard.

Someone who believes the Purple Revolution was still ongoing in 2016 and politicians always keep promises.
