In the Governor race, Gov. Greg Abbott has a 20 point advantage - 48% to 28% for Lupe Valdez a former sheriff of Dallas County, 3% were voting for someone else and 20% were undecided.

It is interesting how Abbott is consistenly leading by large amounts in the same TX polls that have the Senate race between Cruz and O'Rourke close. That lends more plausibility to the Senate race actually being close, but on the other hand there is not much recent history of much split ticket voting in Texas.

Safe R.

This makes me less confident on Beto because I doubt that there will be enough ticket splitting if Abbott wins by more than 10-12 points. TX is not MA in that regard.

I really don't know why everyone keeps doubting the ticket splitting....it is very real, in fact i am one of the mythical beto/Abbott voters, we exist! ( just like NH swing voters)

The reason to doubt it is that in the past, there has not been much ticket splitting in Texas, whereas in a state like New Hampshire, there has been lots of substantial ticket splitting in previous elections.

No one’s denying that they exist, but there won’t be that many.

The Dems in TX couldn't come up with anyone better than Valdez and she's gonna drag down Beto. Cruz is also Latino in a conservative Latino state like TX..

It helps that Lupe Valdez is an awful candidate with an awful record at sheriff including working with ICE even though she claims to be with certain people....the NH comment was more a joke about MT Treasurer's NH views Tongue

Democrats should have nominated Andrew White, he would have made TX competitive.

Democrats won't win Texas GOV until 2022, 2026, or 2032.
