Trump is in an impossible situation on this matter.  He put himself there and has no one to blame but himself, but it's still an impossible position.

Unfortunately this.

Also, the WH flag is flying at full staff.  Such a shame.

Not only is it petty, but by doing this Trump successfully grabs the media spotlight from the McCain funeral and makes it all about him.

Has there ever been a more petty and spiteful President?

Trump brought the McCain Hate on all by himself.  I can't blame the family for not wanting him at the funeral.

If I were part of the McCain family, I'd be happy that he only sent out a Tweet and didn't make a statement.   Really, if any of you were part of the McCain family, would YOU want Trump to do more?

This is really not the time for Trump to "apologize".  The only meaningful apology he can make at this point is to respect the McCain Family's wishes.

I have a feeling that this is going to turn into another classic Atlas double-bind...posters don't want Trump to acknowledge the McCain family or go to the funeral, but then will still get mad when Trump doesn't do the very things they don't want him to do in the first place.

This rings very similar to when he disinvited the Eagles to the White House...posters didn't want the White House visit to happen, yet got mad when Trump cancelled it.

He can issue a respectful statement, stay quiet, and not order the WH flag raised to full staff ahead of schedule (see today’s news.) Not impossible in the least.

We already know that Trump is a horrible human being who is morally unworthy of the office he holds.

It seems that Orange Doofus is refusing to issue a specific proclamation to give all federal facilities direction as to how long the flag should stay at half-staff.
Typical practice is for flags to remain at half through the day of interment for people who have passed-away.
This is just more proof that our president is a cruel, narcissistic man-child.

Seriously this.

It would actually make Trump look like a bigger man if he did this

But he's not, so he won't.

And of course the resident cultists are fully on board. The moon and bitched about how McCain requested Trump not attend his funeral just because Trump Mott is serving as a p o w and being beaten mercilessly for 6 damn years, and likewise repeatedly and personally insulted him over the years. How on Earth could the McCain family have reservations about not having done show up and inevitably turn any eulogy into talking about him self and how great his poll numbers are and how he's doing better than Obama sitting there in the front row? There's just no pleasing some people, so Trump is totally right 2 deprive McCain of the simple honor flying the White House flag at half mast for more than several hours. #MAGA!!

Well McCain did openly state that he didn't want Trump anywhere near his funeral. The pettiness and spite went both ways.
Just read this post... read it slowly and let it soak in.  SMH

Wtf is your point?

Trump's greatest achievement is making many of his supporters act just like him.

The National Commander sent Trump a letter on this. The tone seems rather serious:

It's so pathetic, I even don't have words. Just on CNN they asked Trump on three different occasions on thoughts about McCain, he didn't respond at all. What a kind of person did Trump's parents raise? They certainly didn't teach him any decency. But what do you expect from someone who attacks Gold Star families and mocks a disabled reporter?

Fred Trump May have been very abusive, per the rumors, but it’s probably wrong to speculate too deeply on hearsay

It's worse than that. This is just sickening. Claiming that the President must not be criticized, and must be given respect he has never earned and does not give others is opposed to everything America (including the Republican Party of a hundred years ago) stands for.

As Teddy Roosevelt wrote a century ago,

Well said. In addition, it is breathtaking that Inhofe would criticize McCain for being too outspoken and discourteous to Trump. To TRUMP!?

The hypocrisy is just breathtaking.

So Inhofe is basically saying "if you agree with the Leader on everything and don't say anything even remotely critical, then you may might get properly honored upon your death."

I wonder how worse the Trump's camp reaction would've been if somebody like Susan Collins died instead.
