I'm shocked!

I'll never forget his tweet boasting about McCain coming back to DC for the ACA repeal, as he was trying to shamelessly win him over. Good times Smiley

Well McCain did openly state that he didn't want Trump anywhere near his funeral. The pettiness and spite went both ways.

I was just waiting for Trump to do something like this. I was almost convinced that he would take the classy route for once and not f*** up an easy opportunity to do something normal. I should have known better. Class is completely alien to Trump.

Come on now. The only reason McCain didn't want Trump at his funeral was because of the "I like people who aren't captured" quote in 2015. Trump started the pettiness, I admire McCain for continuing it from the grave. FF move.

Honestly, given how much he's sh**t-talked McCain in the past, a statement of praise would make him look even phonier than he already is.  Silence is the BEST course he can take.

People like him treat this forum community like a hostile enemy.  Their only purpose is to antagonize other people.  There are lots of conservatives that are welcome parts of the community here... and then there are people like the R-PA avatars.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with this. Many of the red or burgundy avatars on here would want for nothing less than all those with opposing views to be cast from this website.

Has there ever been a more petty and spiteful President?

Trump brought the McCain Hate on all by himself.  I can't blame the family for not wanting him at the funeral.

If I were part of the McCain family, I'd be happy that he only sent out a Tweet and didn't make a statement.   Really, if any of you were part of the McCain family, would YOU want Trump to do more?

This is really not the time for Trump to "apologize".  The only meaningful apology he can make at this point is to respect the McCain Family's wishes.

I have a feeling that this is going to turn into another classic Atlas double-bind...posters don't want Trump to acknowledge the McCain family or go to the funeral, but then will still get mad when Trump doesn't do the very things they don't want him to do in the first place.

This rings very similar to when he disinvited the Eagles to the White House...posters didn't want the White House visit to happen, yet got mad when Trump cancelled it.

Unfortunately this. I didn't expect a statement and I won't belittle him for not giving one. Not giving one is more "classy" than trying to fake one after all the animosity between them. Not calling Trump actually classy, but this was the better decision.

Ok but why Instagram/Tweet about McCain, yet put a gigantic picture of yourself?
Why would trump approve of this? Why make it more about "me, me, me" and not about McCain?

Lol...you claim to despise Trump and disregard his opinions, yet he still has the ability to rattle you with every tweet.

I'm sure you're being sarcastic, but it's the truth. Libs getting apoplectic over every tweet Trump makes despite preaching about how irrelevant he is is pretty ironic.

Trump is in an impossible situation on this matter.  He put himself there and has no one to blame but himself, but it's still an impossible position.

LBJ and Nixon were far more spiteful and petty.  Nixon more than LBJ.

What Trump does is "The Art Of The Deal" on steroids.  LBJ and Nixon were deep haters with enemies lists and dark grudges over not having an easier path to the Presidency than the one they had.

At may levels, Nixon was far more dangerous than Trump.

He can issue a respectful statement, stay quiet, and not order the WH flag raised to full staff ahead of schedule (see today’s news.) Not impossible in the least.
