Will pour a drink in honour of a true American hero: the brain tumour.

Not cool, man. That's beneath you.

It’s a sad day when a mother has to bury her son

His mother is still alive!?
Indeed. Should she live 3-4 more years, she will be one of the forty oldest people in the country. She’s only been hospitalized once, for a significant fall in Portugal in 2009.

I dont care for making comments about McCain or his death but some of yall flooding this thread with RIPs and chastising users for saying bad things come off as highly performative

I think there is an American proverb that goes "if you haven't anything nice to say, then say nothing at all".
Some of our posters should follow that advice.

Have you seen our current president?

But that just reinforces the argument, doesn't it?

It can, depending on how you take it. My intent was to highlight how the saying may be outdated relative to our current...culture.

My prayers are with him and his family and friends. This is a difficult time for everyone close to him.

Massive FF, easily my favorite modern Republican. Huge amount of respect for him even if I disagree with him on many issues

Unironically this. The American voters seem to reward whoever is willing to go lowest

That’s why we’re looking at an unprecedented Republican wave in 2018.

Hey, it's not impossible. I wouldn't put it below a country that leaves it veterans to die on the streets and elected Trump in 2016.

While that's a very kind wish for him, in fact I believe that he absolutely wishes to pass away bearing the title of Senator that he treasure so much.

I'm sure we both agree that Lord knows he's earned that right.

Hillary got the most votes and it’s pretty clear that Americans are overwhelmingly rejecting Trump and his enablers in the Republican Party.  I get if you’re angry because innocent people are getting hurt and need to blow off steam as a result, but posts like the one above (and I mean no offense here) are a perfect example of a dangerous sort of defeatism.  The best way to fight Trump isn’t to become your enemy as PNM suggests, let yourself be consumed by hatred, or give up on one’s country; it’s to be a decent person, be politically active (in a non-violent manner obviously), and making sure to treat folks with empathy, compassion, respect and doing what do you can in your life to help those less fortunate.  For my part, I’ll die before I disgrace my country by abandoning my values in favor of rolling around in the mud like a hog.  For the country’s sake, we need to be better than that even if it’s not as emotionally satisfying as swearing and screaming.  I mean, come on, are you really okay with letting Donald Trump define your and your party’s values?  I can only speak for myself, but I sure as Hell am not!

I'm doing all of these things, but I need to let off steam as well xD.

I would say "last of a breed," but another two of the Keating Five are still alive and earning.

Stay classy.

And people are wondering why the alt-left is so disliked.

The best are the ones that preach as if they are saints and holy and virtuous, but are close minded and hostile to anything that does not think talk or walk like them.

This goes for quite a few establishment dems too.

I saw the report about McCain ending his cancer treatment about an hour ago. I express my sincerest condolences for him and his family. It's especially tragic that his centenarian mother will have to bury her son.

There is no such thing as the "alt-left". I know of no leftist white nationalist movement. Also I can't see any, common thread with the people you listed.

To think, just 6 years ago we still had a World War II vet in the Senate, and not too long before that, in the Bush and Obama years, the halls of Congress were teeming with World War II vets like Sens. John Warner, Daniel Inouye, Ted Stevens, and Fritz Hollings. And now we're about to be down to just one Vietnam vet in the Senate, Tom Carper of Delaware. How time flies, how time flies! I feel old.
