Alot, of people are dying still from cancer, like alteimers disease. Stem-celled research could have headed off cancer, which doesn't affect your body like a bacteria or virus does, which mutation can be eliminated with antibiotics. Cancer is a disease that's cell mutation has to die through chemo-theraputic forms of treatment.  And stem cell research could have lead the way.

Obviously I vehemently opposed him on many issues over the years, but I will never forget and always treasure his vote on the ACA last summer. Additionally, his bipartisan spirit is one that is all but gone from the Senate these days. Last of a breed is right. Rest in peace.

The actual thread about his death was locked, so I'll post my moratorium on him here...if anyone cares:

John McCain will be leaving behind a deservedly mixed legacy. The skepticism towards many of his actions is not unwarranted. He tended to be a warmonger and he is partially responsible for unleashing Sarah Palin upon the world. But he did have principles, and he did put country over party in most circumstances. That is a rarity in the GOP today. I also always appreciated his sacrifice for our country, unlike President Bone Spurs. And that sacrifice allowed him to be a vehement opponent of torture, contrary to what is often his party's stance towards it. His staunch advocacy for campaign finance reform is also admirable. And his deciding vote on Trumpcare in the Senate could be one of the best things he is remembered for in the future. I can say for sure, that I would have never voted for him in 2008 or as Senator, if I was able to, but that doesn't mean I can't express some appreciation towards him. Maybe the bar is just low for Republicans today, I don't know. But it's a shame that Republicans like him are the ones dying off...literally.

So rest in peace, John McCain. I never used to think he was a "maverick" in reality, but given his ability to maintain a spine in a party of invertebrates, I have come around to thinking that he truly was a "maverick" after all. Hell, I could have seen him being one of the few Republican Senators that would vote to convict Trump if that fantasy ever managed to transpire. Being a "maverick" becomes easier when you have little to nothing to lose, I guess.
