As one who jumps to the defense of literally every public figure, this is one of the most egregious slam dunk cases I have ever come across. What an idiot. Inheriting a seat in congress wasn't enough for him?

On a scale of 1 to Aaron Schock where would you rank this

Aaron Schock did nothing wrong. He is a victim of our homophobic government who can't recognize culture.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Anyway, today's been... interesting to say the least, though I'm not optimistic that much is going to come out of any of the recent news.

Hunter has had a long history of skating on very thin ice when it comes to ethics, including borrowing funds from the house post office about 400 times way back when. But he seemed to be the teflon man, and avoid the hammer, and kept getting re-elected (I guess because he had talent as a politician). His luck has finally run out. The man just could not avoid living beyond his means I guess.

He'll still win his race. His district is R+11 and it voted for Trump by 55-39.

Duncan Hunter was the second Congressman to endorse Trump.

General Sessions was the third lmao

And the fourth was Scott DesJarlais, who we may all remember as the severe anti-abortion and pro-family congressman, who forced his mistress, who was also his patient, to get an abortion.

Folks, Trump supporters are not sending their best.

This one promptly drops all the way to Tossup/Tilt Republican in this climate.

Hunter is still a narrow favorite, but Democrats are really close to 50-50 now, if Ammar Campar-Najjar runs a decent campaign.

You're a complete hack to think that. Hunter has already made claims that this is a politically motivated investigation, which Trump voters will gladly believe. This district is Safe R.

I guess it's easy to be a Republican and tell everyone they should be responsible for their own healthcare when you can just steal money to pay for your own.

The fifth was Tom Marino, who trump tried to appoint drug czar until he had to drop out because of sketchy ties to opioid companies. After that I seem to recall Bill Shuster being another early endorser and seeing as hes banging a lobbyist for his committee, it might not be a stretch to say there is a pattern here!

They're probably gonna be super happy about the part in the indictment where he says the US Navy can go f*** themselves.

I must have been asleep.  I didn't realize that this was Duncan Hunter's son.

A Democrat could possibly oust Hunter.  He is, after all, under indictment,

A write-in campaign could save the seat.  In 1982, in CA-42, Johnnie Crean won the GOP primary by 92 votes over Ron Packard in an 18 candidate field.  Crean was a young guy with rich parents who was hated by the competition, and he did things like claiming Ronald Reagan's endorsement, when he didn't have it.  Packard decided to run a write-in campaign and he succeeded, beating Crean by several points (the Democrat finished 3rd.

I don't know that this would work here to save Hunter's seat for the GOP.  Packard's old distirct was unusually educated and literate, one of the requirements for a successful write-in candidacy for a candidate not real well known.  Packard's old district was far more Republican than Hunter's is now, but there are fewer swing votes, so a write-in would likely benefit the Democrat, rather than help hold the seat.

Write-ins are no longer allowed in the general election since California went to the top-2 primary system.

So do we live in a world where Republicans can just get away with anything by claiming the Justice Department is out to get them?
