Hot take: people who make under a certain amount should be exempt from property taxes in order to make home ownership more attainable. And yes, that includes boomers.

New York has reductions for all but the rich, and a further one for seniors that aren't so rich, but they're just a reduction on a fixed amount, and you're still going to be paying quite a lot on an expensive home.

Hotter take: we should stop incentivizing homeownership altogether and instead favor massive low-rent housing programs, ideally by nationalizing a large number of unoccupied houses.
