Round 3

Discuss with Maps

(22nd amendment doesn't pass, Eisenhower is convinced by the GOP to run, his heart problem isn't as bad, Nixon is still on the ticket)

Stevenson was quite accommodating for Dixiecrats. The south would of more or less voted for him.

Think this would be another Eisenhower landslide.

Not a knock on Stevenson, but Ike was beloved.

Don't see why this would be significantly different than the other two times.

President Dwight Eisenhower (R-KS) / Vice President Richard Nixon (R-CA) ✓
Fmr. Governor Adlai Stevenson (D-IL) / Senator Lyndon Johnson (D-TX)

The Stop Kennedy movement succeeds. Northern Democrats stay home despite Johnson's wheeling and dealing improving Stevenson's performance from 1956.

Would Kennedy even run if Ike were eligible to run for a 3rd term and did?

President Eisenhower: 405 electoral votes
Adlai Stevenson: 75 electoral votes
Harry Byrd: 57 electoral votes

This is Eisenhower's weakest performance but he still gets over 400 electoral votes.

Ike’s personal popularity. His job approvals weren’t too bad either in his 2nd term

Ike wins again with around 400 electoral votes, weaker than his first 2 runs but still another thumping to the Stevenson wing of the Democratic Party.

JFK all but guaranteed the nomination in 1964 against Nixon after he makes a case for “A New Way” for the Democratic Party.
