This is a quiet point of contention between me and my RTC. A lot of them, going into the Republican Convention, supported Peter Lumaj for governor, who fit all of their True Conservative (TM) criteria. My RTC is definitely more conservative than the average moderate Connecticut Republican, so their support for him had me worried. I implied, but never outright said, that being ideologically pure is worthless if you're bound to lose, which Lumaj, who is openly socially conservative, would have, and that it's foolish to have such ridiculous standards which are tone-deaf to the overall mood of the electorate you're trying to appeal to.

I, by contrast, am willing to take a candidate who could agree with/accomplish 40-60% of what I want but actually stand a chance of winning, hence my support of Erin Stewart before she dropped out of the Governor race.

Which do you prefer? Would you rather die on the hill of ideological purity or win and get at least some of what you want?

Damn Muhloy and his lax cyber security. The Russians got through so easily.

Always the latter, especially against Trump. Almost any Democrat is better than the orange clown. Also: what's it worth when a candidate passes purity tests, gets elected but is forced to compromise after getting in? You hardly get 100% of what you want unless you're prez yourself with a congress that thinks like you. Isn't happening. Politics is always compromise.

The latter of course, though it would depend on what (and how badly) they differ on the 50%.

I would love to have candidates that matched me 50% and could win.

The new Democratic majority can do only so much with Trump in office aside from immigration, budgeting, once the trifecta happens with Avenetti or Cory Booker as prez, the real changes will begin.

If you voted for the first option, I'm sorry but you are temperamentally unprepared for living in a democracy.

depends on the 50%

If it's reduction in military spending, auditing the federal reserve, reforming cjs and ending the drug war, and etc, then absolutely

That's sort of what I have in Trump.

I suppose it's how you get to the 50%.

Everyone knows that Dems will have to compromise with the GOP even if they assume the trifecta in 2020, due to Senate parliamentary procedures, and the immigration hurdle in the Kavanaugh SCOTUS Crt.
