There's really nothing progressive about what Cuomo said.

Anyone who really takes what Cuomo said to heart and agrees with it isn't deserving of the vote of any person who truly cares about the well-being of the whole of America.

America is not a PERFECT nation, but it is a GREAT nation and a GOOD nation, especially compared to other nations of the world.  If someone can only speak negatively about the American nation and not say a positive thing about it, then I question your basic loyalties.

I doubt people many people will remember his quote this time next month, though I'm sure it will make the rounds in right wing media

It's only going to hurt him among the #MAGA Cult of Deplorables who weren't going to vote for him anyway. But he's right, America wasn't great at all during the days that Putin's Puppet wants to take us back to.

We are a Great and Good nation because we have had men such as Carl Schurz whose wisdom has prevailed.

There are a lot of good things here; no questions asked. But I would hesitate to say it is a "Good" country in terms of its character. No country that treats asylum seekers the way it has (alongside countless other ways it treats its own citizens) could be fundamentally good in nature.

It's good--at times, for some things, but that's it. American exceptionalism is a mind-numbing perspective because it blinds you to the many negatives this country has and the ways in which it does not perform better (or does better for its own) than a lot of other technologically-advanced countries.

It's also ironic that conservatives are outraged by this when Trump's entire 2016 campaign was about "Making America Great Again". So obviously to Trump and the 63 million Americans who voted for him, America wasn't great?

MAGA implies that America was once great and can be once again. That's not what Cuomo said.
Cuomo never said that America wasn't great at all.

Also, Trump and his supporters never answered the question "When was America great?"

It's a meaningless soundbite that people can project their opinions onto.

Your statements about how we're not great because of how we treat our asylum seekers is nothing more than emotional blackmail and manipulation.  It also reflects a total lack of concern for Americans who have been victims of the crimes committed by illegal aliens and members of transnational gangs.  We've done plenty for asylum-seekers, but we don't grant asylum on demand.

My heart is that much harder on this issue than it was 5 minutes ago.  Keep up this tactic, and see how it influences public policy.

Emotional manipulation... They're facts. Asylum seekers have the right to request it at the border, without illegally entering, and should be treated humanely upon entry while they wait for their rightful hearing. I'm not talking about people who crossed the border illegally... But okay, it seems I can't address anything you say without getting some snappy quip from you. History will frown upon you, especially for that last statement of yours.

We wasted both of our times. Have a nice day.

It will not hurt him or Democrats at large. If he runs for President though, he's even more done than he would have before. Trump and the Republicans are allowed to talk s*** about America when a Democrat occupies the White House, but Democrats can't criticize the country under any circumstance. Those double standards again.

By the way, I agree with him. But I'm not running for office, with possible ambitions even higher than Governor, am I?

Cuomo will never be a candidate for Prez, after he made that deal with the GOP Senators to keep the senate in GOP control. As well as the awful reappointment deal that followed.
