Watson was never really viewed as crazy, although many of his colleagues viewed (and continue viewing - one of my professors met him and referred to him as a prick) him as rather cranky, acrimonious and misogynistic (most notoriously in his belittling of Rosalind Franklin, which even he admitted was his error). Although the dominant theory in the 50's was that protein, rather than DNA was the molecule of hereditary (owing to a perceived lack of complexity in the latter molecule) the ultimately accepted belief that DNA was the heritable molecule was not unknown, being first proposed in like the 20's and bolstered by experimental evidence in the 40's. Once Watson and Crick published their information, the biological community accepted it as doctrine relatively quickly.

Of course, you could be referring to his general crankiness in more recent years, but those statements are still controversial

Ross Perot was not right.  Speaking of Right though, the Wright Brothers.  "It's impossible for people to fly."

Every single "homophile" organization and activist in America before June 28, 1969.  They were literally viewed as crazy.

Karl Heinrich Ulrichs too.

Shows what you know.  I was on the other side of the debate with Barry Marshall, and the stress of being wrong gave me an ulcer!  Cheesy (Just kidding)

Winston Churchill in 1938 - He condemned Chamberlain's Munich peace of our time and urged war to be declared on Germany.

Another is Nelson Mandela as while some in the West sympathized with him, he was viewed as crazy in his own country yet today almost everyone in his own country thinks he was right.
