You see, when Rep. Cohen is punched, he punches back. He's a fighter. This is just locker room talk. Toughen up, snowflake.

It's almost certainly hyperbole. I don't think Cohen really wants Blackburn to end her life.

All of us have said things that can be misinterpreted. All of us have said things we regret. All of us have said things we don't really mean. It's part of being human.

His constituents clearly feel he represents them well, as they keep re-electing him.

Trump has literally praised and encouraged violence from his supporters but yet you want to bring up a hyperbolic statement from a House Rep.

At this point Rep. Cohen should resign. Urging someone to commit suicide is inexcusable, even if a suicide is unlikely.

Civility in public discourse has come and gone. Back to the good ol’ days of threatening House colleagues with your hounds and shotgun.

When the US General Discussion board has literally become spam of a link to whatever stupid thing a Republican said or did that [insert red avatar or Landslide Lyndon/ProudModerate] can find on the internet while they're bored, this is the inevitable result: people who oppose them ideologically trying to do the same.

There are Republicans who still think they have the moral standing to criticize any politican over what they say? How very amusing. Will the next joke involve balanced budgets, or free trade?

Lol, that's not what Cohen said at all. Don't be obtuse. He's simply using a variation of the "if _____ told you to jump off a bridge, would you?" saying, and suggesting that Motormouth Marsha would if the god emperor told her to. In other words, he's correctly calling her a lemming.

You forgot to read the second line of the quoted excerpt.

-If Trump told Marsha Blackburn to jump off a bridge, she would do it.
-I wish that he would tell her that.

The meaning behind what he said is quite clear.

My view on this issue, is, as it is on most things, balanced. When I read about what Cohen said last week, I got the feeling that he was saying something along the lines of "If someone tells you jump, you ask how high." That suggests loyalty, and Blackburn is undoubtedly a staunch Trump supporter. At the same time, however, while I do not like either Cohen or Blackburn, I also think that this comment may have been best left unsaid.

Sounds like a joke but in very poor taste.

Cohen seems like he's been saying things to get himself in trouble lately. Is it a bit out of character for him?   I never got the impression of him as being vituperative until recently.

In an ideal world, noone would say things like this. However, political rhetoric is utterly poisoned, and it's mostly not Democrats' fault. It is hypocritical to denounce this and then sing the praises of people like Trump. Some Democrats are no saints, but our discourse and rhetoric is infinitely nicer, more civil, and respectful than that promoted by a lot of Republican politicians.

I'm sick of going high, and look where it's gotten us. To swing voters and soft supporters, it looks weak. I'd rather that the Democratic slogan for 2020 be "Ivanka is a C[inks]t" than ever hear "WHEN THEY GO LOW, WE GO HIGH" again.
