I'm against the death penalty, but we rarely execute innocent people these days. That is the weakest argument against it that I can think of.

Pharmacists aren't "drug dealers" except in the most pedantic and literal sense, and the vast majority of fentanyl abuse is with non-pharmaceutical grades of fentanyl. Actiq lollipops and Duragesic patches are not particularly conducive to abuse due to their high price, strict regulation, and delivery methods. (although obviously with the potency of fentanyl, both lollipops and patches are still extremely dangerous)

Exactly. A guy got caught in Lawrence, MA with like an ounce of fenranyl. Something very small like that and it could kill the entire population of Concord, NH

The sad part is it is so easy for humans to extend attitudes like the one on the post above me to broader and broader segments of society.

Dehumanization, lack of or removal of empathy, a lust for retribution.  You might justify it with "but they killed someone". 

The very same attitude that led that individual to murder is what leads you to sanction murder.  If you just preclude it with a whole bunch of paperwork, it is right and good.

I would also say that the death penalty is ineffective, it doesn’t deter crime and life in prison is more punishing. Also when one in twenty five people are found innocent, well, we might as well abolish it.

Abolish the death penalty. It is not just inhuman, it also doesn't prevent crime, is expensive and there always remains a chance for an error that can't be corrected. Even if the error rate is >1%, it is too much.
