The Republican party has long advocated immigration restriction. Even in the Republican Congress of 1995-1996, a fence near San Diego was constructed, and laws were tightened. The Republican party has long advocated protectionism. Bush imposed steel tariffs in 2002.

That's right, the Republican Party is whatever Kasich says it is, even if 90% of Republicans voted for Trump.

So the guy claiming to be a “real” Republican managed to win 13% of the primary vote and one state out of 50.

Go away, John.

Truth. He barely got any votes. He's a democrat nowadays.

He actually won about the same number of votes as Romney and Huckabee in 2008, and a much higher number than even Santorum or Gingrich in 2012. He got second place or within 2-3 percent of second place in twenty states. Trump won under 38% of the vote on May 3, and Kasich had just under about 20% on that same date. He was hardly irrelevant to the Republican Party and Republicans in the primaries.

True, but that was in 2016.  It's a different world now.

I wonder if Kasich recognizes the Republican Party when he looks at Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.

Sorry Tom, but most Republicans agree. You'll see when he gets demolished in the 2020 primary.

The only "ideology" of the modern day GOP is worshipping Trump and triggering libs. Kasich fails at both horribly, and therefore might as well be a Democrat in the eyes of most Republicans.

Because he had the R next to his name on the ballot.

LOL, that makes it even worse.

Anyways, Trump is a manifestation of the Republican Party since 1968.

Trump exemplifies the Republican Party better than anyone. It's why he steamrolled his way through the 2016 primaries. He is the perfect representation of the main tent-pole idea behind the Republican Party, probably since the Reagan years: "me first. Me only. F*** everyone else." The sooner Republicans like Kasich come to terms with this harsh truth, the sooner they can change their party for the better in a more meaningful way when Trump is finally out of the picture.

Exactly. That's literally all that matters to most Republican voters.
