“The riots in Charlottesville a year ago resulted in senseless death and division,” Trump tweeted Saturday from rainy Bedminster, NJ, where he is vacationing. “We must come together as a nation. I condemn all types of racism and acts of violence. Peace to ALL Americans!”

One, he's a lying jackwagon. If he wants to be taken seriously, rather than a terrifying joke, he can release his taxes.

Two, he and his band of criminal bigots have dug themselves a hole that is much too deep for him to tweet his way out of.

Three, especially with "your racism is just as bad as my racism, okay".

This is another bad on both sides statement. He'll never condemn the KKK types specifically, not because he agrees with them, but because they like him and that's all he cares about. Trump's opinion on anyone or anything is based on how much they like/respect him and nothing else. Pathetic really.

How this went down....

"Sir, we need you to issue a statement condemning the anti-black and anti-Semitic racism that was on display at the Charlottesville march."

"Why? What about all the ANTI-WHITE racism from the left?!"

"Um...okay, how about if you just say you condemn all types of racism?"

Depends on whether a better target is denouncing hostility toward a specific group of people, or denouncing bigotry and prejudice on principle. Given that the former doesn't necessarily imply the latter, but the latter accomplishes the former, I'd say Trump made the better choice.

So once again the guy who is emboldening white supremacists won't explicitly call them out after whining that Obama wouldn't use the words "Islamic terrorism"

This is another bad on both sides statement. He'll never condemn the KKK types specifically, not because he agrees with them, but because they like him and that's all he cares about. Trump's opinion on anyone or anything is based on how much they like/respect him and nothing else. Pathetic really.

Yeah, I think this is one of the most troubling things about him. Why can't Trump issue a single, specific, strong and unequivocal condemnation of the white supremacist, Charlottesville movement that rose recently? A condemnation not prompted by an interviewer's question, but a real and powerful one? This shouldn't be that hard, and yet Trump never did it.

For the same reason right-wing populists often don't do in Europe. They want their support, so they won't condemn these groups and figures. On the other hand, they don't want to offend the more mainstream conservatives. Trump likes anyone who with a MAGA bumper sticker, no matter of it's a literal nazi or a communist.

Yeah and Barack Obama never went out to Chicago and said, "Quit killing each other, and pull up your pants and knock off the thug culture".

Pathetic really.

There should be an asterisk next to that statement.
