Sentiments like these have always been there if you scratched the surface even a little bit. This is just the continuation of the Southern Strategy. What #NeverTrump Republicans and Establishment Democrats aren't comfortable admitting is that there actually isn't that much difference between Trump and the Pre-Trump Bush/Reagan-Era GOP.

I think it's more of a shock that it was "officially" relegated to the fringes for so long.  White nationalism has always been part of our society.  This revival should not have been unexpected.  All it needs is a Hitler-like leader and it's going to grow.

The Cheeto's too sloppy, too old, and too much of a clown to really do the job.

I'd watch out for one of those tiki-torch holding younguns that's currently being scorned and losing his job.  That's going to become a problem in about 20 years.

There was a time in the 1960s when people thought the war protesters, hippies and rioters were winning, yet that was followed by the Reagan Revolution. The Neo-Know-Nothing Klan was powerful in the 1920s, yet soon afterwards the 21st amendment was passed and the term "romanism" was never heard again.

In other words, I suspect that we aren't seeing a triumph of neo-Nazis, neo-Know-Nothings, and neo-Klansmen, but rather the desparation of those who are loosing.

They’re just getting louder and more bitter because they see the writing on the wall and feel the social pressure of limitations placed on their ability to speak out against White demographic decline without being ostracized as racists. Don’t expect them to get any quieter or moderate, even if they lose elections and majorities as a consequence. Theirs is a politics of White identity, White resentment, and White privilege; they will cling to that to death.

While true, that screaming is now being amplified by a megaphone now that Trump and the GOP are enabling them.
